“Heard you get home.” He sits down on the floor beside Creed’s chair, and Lukas clears his throat, drawing all our attention to him.
“Daniels is trying, and failing, to blame this all on me and have me taken off the case.” I narrow my eyes, ready to stab the bastard, but he continues. “There’s no proof of bodies or anything that he’s brought to light, though, so my guess is he’s definitely involved in some capacity with Dimitri.”
I shiver, leaning harder into him.
No amount of chocolate will ever make that name okay to hear. He’s made my entire life a living hell and now he has my dad.
“You should have seen how pissed he was when Lukas walked out,” Corden joins in. “Knowing he couldn’t keep bringing Luke in without having evidence against him made him furious,” he chuckles, looking at Luke.
“Yeah, well, he also tried to get me off your case. That’s why I had to keep going back every fucking day. I also talked to Chief about you ignoring Daniels’ insistence on leaving.”
I smile and he kisses my nose, melting me.
“What did he say?”
He looks into my eyes. “He wants to talk to you in the next day or two. If he hears it from you that you no longer want Daniels to protect you, then he’s willing to back us up. He backed me up anyway, but now that Daniels is offmyback, we can work on getting him off yours as well.”
I relax my muscles at the news. “Good. We can go after class tomorrow?”
Luke nods. “Of course. This doesn’t mean Daniels will go anywhere, but it will mean he can’t dictate where you go or what you do.”
“It’s fine, as long as we keep an eye on him. If he’s involved, he could maybe lead us to Dad.”
“It’s worth a shot,” he agrees before Matty clears his throat.
“On that topic, you should know Ollie and I caught Daniels and Amber hooking up about an hour ago.”
I feel my jaw drop open as I watch him.
“He’s fucking that slut? What the fuck for?” Cord shakes his head like he can’t fathom it. “He got pissed at Luke for dating Haliee, calling it a conflict. Isn’t fucking the bully of someone you’re supposed to be protecting against the rules?”
I scoff, bringing everyone’s attention to me. “Who gives a shit if they’re sticking their puzzle pieces together?” I shiver from the image before continuing. I’m going to need fucking brain bleach. “I want to know if she has anything to do with Dad and Dimitri.”
Matty sighs, looking to Luke before he turns his eyes back to me.
“She could. She could also just be fucking someone older to piss her father off. We won’t know for sure unless we start tracking her movements,” he points out the obvious, and I scrunch up my nose.
“On it,” Ollie says, jumping up and coming over to kiss me gently before he heads back to the basement.
“He’s going to track her?” I ask, and they nod.
Lukas squeezes my hip with his hand in comfort. “He’ll do some fancy shit with the cameras to record every frame she’s in, and I imagine he’ll get Creed to set up a few trackers in her shit.”
Oh, my sweet nerd boy. I love him.
“Okay, that works. What about Daniels? I assume you’re already doing that?”
He winces. “It’s a little harder with him. We can’t place trackers in his vehicle or phone because he’s an agent. They do regular sweeps to check for shit like that.” I deflate a little before yawning. “But the cameras are set up to record any frame he is in as well.”
“Thank you,” I whisper, cuddling into him and closing my eyes.
“Always, baby.” He kisses my head before addressing everyone else. “For now, I think that’s all we need to discuss, but we need to act as normal as possible. Even if it hurts.” He swallows hard and I know that last part was for me.
Once everyone agrees, Lukas picks me up and carries me into his room to get ready for bed.
Within fifteen minutes, I’m changed, done with my female shit and am crawling into bed to lay in his arms.
“I love you, Lukas.”
