“I love you. Come home,” Haliee says, wiping tears from the corner of her eye.
“I love you too. I’ll be there soon, baby,” I reply before the screen goes black.
Corden watches the exchange quietly with a secret smile of his own.
“She’s changing us for the better, brother. We must have done something right to deserve this,” he says softly.
“Yeah, man. That she is.”

I know I probably won’t see much tonight but knowing that Haliee slept with Ollie makes me angry.
I can’t say why it does because feelings really aren’t my forte, but if I had to guess, it’s because everyone is getting their chance to touch and feel her, and I can’t.
I miss holding her while she sleeps so I could keep the nightmares at bay, but it’s different when she’s asleep. I also know I’m nowhere near ready to allow someone to be so intimate with me, and I can tell she wants to be.
I just hope I can get my head right in order to allow her to get that close soon because she’s special. I’ve never met anyone quite like her before, and I hope my mental shit doesn’t ruin it like it has everything else.
It’s funny, really. I was completely fine with never, ever, letting someone touch me after my parents, but that first night I held her was an eye-opener.
I would do anything for that girl as long as it’s within the realm of possibility to do so.
I can’t be afraid of her touch forever… right?
I’m about to turn around and head back home when I see Amber pulling into the empty parking lot of a park just outside of town.
Instead of ignoring it like I want to, I find myself leaning back against a wall and getting comfortable to see what she’s doing out here this late at night.
I watch for what must be about fifteen minutes, convinced she’s not getting out of the car before a black, familiar SUV pulls into the lot beside her.
She gets out of her car, moving to the passenger side and climbs in.
“Fuck,” I curse under my breath before pulling out my phone to call Oliver.
“You’ve reached the nerdy bat cave, what can I get you?” His voice is so cheery on the other line it gives me a headache.
“Switch to the cameras we have at the park just outside of town.”
He lets out a breath, tapping his fingers on the keyboard. “Alright, what am I— oh hey there!” His voice goes up an octave.
“What? What the fuck do you see?!” I snap, really having no patience, but it’s nothing new from me.
“Just the leader of the bitch squad making out with that FBI prick,” he hums as he watches.
“She’s making out with Daniels? You’re sure?” I question, and he snorts before tapping a few keys and my phone pings.
Pulling it back, there’s a clear image of Amber’s tongue shoved down the fucker’s throat, and I want to gag.
“Huh, I wonder if he knows all the dicks she’s had in her mouth before his?” I hear Ollie ponder as I bring the phone back to my ear, and I shudder.
“Don’t know, don’t want to know.” I pinch the bridge of my nose. “Why is he getting into this with her? If he was so on the level, he would be treating his relationship with Haliee’s bully the same way he tried to treat her relationship with Luke.” I narrow my eyes at the car, wishing I could figure out what they were doing together.
Not in the biblical sense, because fuck no, but him being cozy with the one woman trying to make Haliee’s life hell?
That’s some suspicious shit.
“Lukas asked me to go through the cameras at Brent’s work to see if I could recognize anyone delivering the letters, but it’s impossible,” he sighs, sounding almost defeated.
