Moving to stand beside Torren, I snap. “He’s not here, you fucking tool.”
His eyes narrow on me as Lukas and the guys storm through the front door, anger clear on each one of their faces.
“I’m here, baby,” he sneers at Daniels as he passes, pulling me into his arms as he looks back to the agent in question.
Surrounded by my guys, he doesn’t look nearly as confident in himself as he did a few moments ago.
“I’ll go with you and give you my statement, but let me be clear. Haliee no longer needs your so-called protection.”
I smile against his chest.
“You can’t just remove someone from Witness Protection, Detective Michaels,” Daniels spits out, and I want to kick him in the nuts. I am beyond over everything right now.
Turning in Luke’s arms, I stare Daniels down. “It’s simple. I don’t trust your so-called protection. Keep me in the program if you need to, to make yourself look better to your superiors, but I’m not going anywhere.” His eyes narrow at me, but I’m not done. “This is the one place I feel safe. Good luck getting me away from them.” I wave my hand to the room of overly pissed off men surrounding him, and he stiffens.
“Fine. It’s your own death wish,” he spits out at me before smirking at Luke. “You, on the other hand, Detective Michaels, have to come with me.”
Lukas tightens his arms around me, kissing my head before letting me go.
I turn back to him.
“Please don’t go with him, Lukas,” I whisper, pleading with my eyes. Trying to convey how much I don’t trust Daniels, and he nods in understanding.
“I’ll take my own car. Corden will drive me.” Cord nods and Daniels grunts, his face turning red before he storms out the door, slamming it shut behind him.
“I don’t trust him,” I whisper, and they all make sounds of agreement.
“That’s why I won’t be alone with him. Cord will be with me, and Daniels can’t do shit to me at the station, Scratch. I will be okay.” He leans down, kissing me softly, and I melt into him.
“Be careful.” I walk over to Cord, hugging him before giving him a soft kiss as well. “Both of you.”
