Fuck, my head hurts.
Opening my eyes, I try to see anything around me, but there’s nothing.
I’m engulfed in blackness as the memories come flooding back.
Haliee screaming, sending us both into action.
I remember purposely separating myself from Lukas so I knew she would be safest.
Fuck.
I really need her to be okay.
I knew Dimitri would come for me. He threatened it enough before following through, but as long as she was safe, that’s all that mattered.
God, if they got her, I don’t know what I will do.
“Oh good, you’re awake.” I hear a dark voice from the other side of the room, and I know it’s him.
Blinking to clear my vision some more, I see a small light on the floor that must be coming from under the door.
“What do you want, Dimitri?” I ask calmly, my voice not betraying how fucking pissed I am.
“You know what I want, Brendon. Or should I call you Brent? I’ve gotten used to referring to your daughter as Haliee. It suits her much better than Hailey, don’t you think?”
I growl, making him laugh. “She isn’t yours, you sick son of a bitch!”
“That’s where you’re wrong. She is mine, you just refuse to accept that.” He clicks his tongue in disappointment as the light disappears. “No matter. I will get to her after I kill those little fucks who dared to touch what was mine. And eventually, you will help me.”
Not a fucking chance, asshole.
