“Tha—thank you,” I say. “I was just doing my job.”
She pulls back, looking at me like I’ve hung the moon, before patting my cheek and hugging Trey.
“I’m so happy you found incredible people to love. Ones that will cherish you for exactly who you are, son.” She stands on her toes to give him a kiss before wiping at the tears on her cheeks. “Dinner. I’m going to go make you all a nice meal, and then Frank and I will get out of your hair.”
“Mom, you’re not staying for dinner?” Trey asks, shifting from foot to foot, and Joann looks to her husband Frank.
“I think you guys need some time to rest and relax. If I had to guess, this is your first day out of the hospital?” Frank looks to me, and I nod.
“Yes, sir,” I say, and he scoffs.
“Frank or Dad. None of this sir, bullshit. Makes me feel old,” he grumbles and Julie giggles, drawing the attention of Joann again.
“Oh, you beautiful girl. I can’t wait to get to know the two of you more when you’re healed and feeling better.” She turns on her heels and walks out of the room and toward the kitchen like she’s on a mission, and Frank sighs, patting Trey on the back.
“I’m gonna go make sure she doesn’t destroy the kitchen,” he looks at me. “Thank you for making our son so happy. It’s about time.”
It’s the last thing he says before giving us all a smile and leaving the room.
We’re silent for a few minutes before Trey flops onto the bed like a huge weight has been taken off him.
“That was better than I imagined,” Jules says exactly what I’m thinking.
“Yeah. I’m not sure we’ve ever had such a positive family experience,” I add.
“Well, you have a new family now. We’re crazy, but we love with our whole hearts, and we never treat others so terribly,” he says back to us, leaning in to kiss Jules over me.
The second I see a hint of tongue, I feel my cock jerk to life, and groan.
“Too hot. I need pain meds,” I whine, and Trey pulls back chuckling.
“You got it, buddy,” he says, leaning over to kiss me and pulls back. “I love you, Peter. Pretty sure I fell in love with you the second your face lit up over that play-doh set.”
I blush as he stands up, moving to the ensuite bathroom to get my pain meds and antibiotics.
Chapter9
Julie
Pete has been home for a week, and Trey went back to work yesterday, which meant I was taking care of my husband alone. No big deal, I do it all the time… but never when he’s so cranky from pain.
All of the years we’ve been together, he’s never had so much as a broken finger, so this is new for him, and he is bitchy about it.
I mean, I get it. If I was shot or in that kind of pain, especially in my groin area, I’d be pissy too. Add on the fact that he can’t have any form of sexual contact right now, and he’s not a happy little boy.
“Ugh!” he growls from the bathroom, and I run to see what’s wrong.
“Are you okay, Pete?” I ask him. He may be in a bad mood, but he’s still my person. I don’t like to see him hurting in any form.
“No, Jules. I’m not fucking okay!” he snaps at me as he leans over the sink.
I take a step back, thrown with how he’s just spoken to me. He’s never been that rude to me before, and I won’t tolerate it.
Crossing my arms, I narrow my eyes at him.
“Peter. Look at me,” I order, and he snorts, continuing to ignore me. “You think I’m kidding, Peter McKinnon? I said look at me.” I put steel in my voice, channeling my anger into the appropriate reaction.
His head snaps up, eyes wide as he takes in my stance before wincing.
