I throw back my head and laugh. I have no doubt I’m going to love this family.

CHAPTER3

ERIC

“Holy shit.”Hudson returns a few minutes later. “You have one hot nurse.” He drops down in the large recliner, and I turn to glare at the fucker.

“She’s myone.” There’s no way I’ll be able to hide my feelings from my family, and Hudson doesn’t seem surprised. His smirk screamsI told you so. All the times I made fun of him for falling in love at first sight run through my mind, and I realize Karma just bit me in the ass.

Like all the men in my family, I got hit right between the eyes by Cupid’s arrow. Lynette reached into my chest and stole my heart the second she walked through the door. I don’t even care that my life will never be the same. Fuck a duck. After constantly teasing my brother and sister about their fast relationships, I finally understand what they were feeling. There’s this indescribable pull. She’s all I see. My soulmate, my other half. Nothing and no one will stand in my way. Lynette Hilton is mine, and I plan to change her last name just as soon as possible.

“I need to figure out how I’m going to proceed,” I admit to Hudson and almost immediately regret my slip up. Asking my crazy family for help is a sure-fire way to guarantee a shit show.

“Don’t worry. We’ll figure something out,” he assures me.

I don’t want my family interfering in my relationship. “I can take care of myself,” I snap at him, and Hudson looks from my broken arm down to my broken leg before glancing up to raise an eyebrow at me.

“Uh. I see that.” I flip off the fucker with my left hand. “Before you fuck things up,” Hudson won’t let the subject drop, “you need to let Lynette know how you feel.” Duh. He acts like I’m a total moron. “Maybe text her or something since you’re such a shy little flower.”

“Oh, sure.” I nod my head and grab my phone. I type a crazy message, knowing I’ll never send it, then show him the screen.

Let me take you on a wild ride.

My older brothershakes his head. “Well, if that’s the best you got, we’re in deep doo-doo.”

“Your four-year-old is rubbing off on you,” I tell him. “And it isn’t a good look for you.” He stares at me, and I attempt to reassure him, “Don’t worry about me. I got this covered.”

“Famous last words,” he grumbles, but I ignore his negativity.

Needing to have my wits about me, I take over-the-counter pain medication before bed, skipping the heavy prescription stuff. Meeting Lynette motivated me to stop moping around like a pouting little boy. It’s time to get my mangled body healed and claim my girl. I spend the night staring at the ceiling, remembering her luscious curves. My cock stays hard and ready for several hours, and I wonder if I should worry about permanent damage.

* * *

I’m sittingat the breakfast bar drinking coffee when Lynette comes through the door. “Oh.” She smiles at me and drops a suitcase next to the counter. “I was trying to get here early enough to make you breakfast.”

“I’m not totally useless. I make the most of the two limbs that still work.” I wiggle my eyebrows. “Plus, my coffee maker pretty much does everything for you.”

“Do you mind if I have some? I’m not a morning person, and caffeine is a necessity.” She walks over to the cabinet and grabs a mug. When she turns back to me, I notice the dark circles under her bright blue eyes and wonder if she had a hard time sleeping, too.

“Baby, you can have anything you want,” I tell her. She already owns me, heart and soul.

“Thank you.”

Lynette sits next to me and places her cup on the countertop. “Uh.” She runs her fingers in circles around the rim of the cup. “Were you drunk or high when you texted me last night?”

My mouth opens and closes several times as I realize I must’ve accidentally sent that goddamn message last night. I grab my phone and groan when I see ‘read’underneath the text. Fuck me. I should've deleted that shit right away.

“Jesus.” I rub the back of my neck. “I don’t even know where to start.” Meeting my girl has turned me into a total jackass. “Hudson was giving me a hard time, and I typed that message out being silly.” That sounds even worse, moron. “I didn’t mean to send it to you.”

I stumble through the full explanation and watch as Lynette blinks several times. I’m wondering if I’ve made a mess of our new relationship when she throws back her head to laugh. “So, you don’t want to take me on a wild ride?”

“Oh, I plan to give you wild rides for a long time to come.” In fact, I plan to keep her forever. Now might not be the right time to let her in on my plans since we just met yesterday. I’ll wait at least a few days before dropping my bombshell on her.

“I’m going to hold you to that once you’re healed.” She lets me off the hook easily, and I breathe a sigh of relief. When I see my brother, I’ll kick his ass for this bullshit.

We finish discussing the day while drinking our coffee.
