“So, what’s it going to be? I will give you all five million each if you help me get the fuck out of here,” she continued.

Desperation made one do stupid things. Then again, who’d turn down that kind of money?

Sebastian couldn’t help me because he had no idea where I was.

“All right, kill the girl and transfer the money. Hurry up before we change our minds,” said the one in the middle.

“No!” I shouted when the bitch turned to face me.

“Not so fast. I think you forgot about me,” came another voice, and time slowed down. I roared, trying to dodge to the left when the bullet hit Sofia in the shoulder, exited on the other side and went into the wall behind her. She went down, screaming in pain.

I instantly recognized the man standing at the entrance. It was the bodyguard from the store, the one that picked up the package from Michelle. He must have heard the entire exchange because now, he was pointing his gun at the other four.

“Get him, you fools! Get him!” Sofia shrieked, pressing her hand over her wound. Blood stained her dress a darker shade.

“Don’t move and don’t do anything stupid, Boris. That bitch is finished and if any of you want to live, I suggest you stay put. Ricardo and the others will be here shortly,” Logan warned. It seemed they got the message because they instantly lowered their guns.

Sofia brought the roof down with her screaming when her men seized her. Boris put my phone down and cut off the rope, freeing me. The first thing I did was grab Sofia’s phone and tap it, hoping Sebastian wasn’t disconnected.

“It’s over. More men are coming. I don’t know where I am but you have to come and get me,” I said, finally seeing his handsome face on the screen.

Everything else happened fast. Sofia was dragged out kicking and screaming, begging everyone to help her, but it was all over. Then, Logan came over and gave our location to Sebastian, telling him to hurry up.

My husband showed up quickly and dragged me into his SUV before he let me hug him. My mind was still spinning when Pedro raced off to get us to safety. Logan had mentioned that several of his cousins were coming to deal with Sofia and he didn’t want anyone to see us there.

“I am so sorry, Sebastian. I thought I could deal with her on my own. That was silly of me,” I said when we were finally safe.

Sebastian brought me close to his chest and he kissed me. It was so good to feel his lips on mine again.

“Don’t… just please don’t say anything now, Marinka. It’s over. Sofia is going to be dealt with and we can finally start over,” he said, touching me like he couldn’t believe it I was all right, that he had me back.

“Remember that day when Pedro brought you home all beaten up after Gino insulted one of your old lady friends in the restaurant?” I asked, and he nodded. “Well, you look exactly like you did back then. Your face is battered and you’re all dinged up. You needed a shower.”

It took Sebastian a few seconds to figure out what I was actually saying and when he did, shock and disbelief riddled his features.

“Christ, Marinka, you remember that?” he finally whispered.

“You have to thank Sofia for that. She helped me remember the past. When she started showing me the pictures of the two of you, I started experiencing the most painful headache. I thought I might pass out and then, I started seeing flashbacks from the past, pieces of memories and glimpses of our conversations. In the end, everything came back.”

“It’s hard to belief Sofia could ever be a blessing, but maybe without her, you’d have still been living in the dark,” Sebastian agreed. “And this whole thing is finally over. I am just happy and grateful that you weren’t hurt. I love you so much.”

“I love you, too, my king.” I replied, then sadly added, “I’m so sorry about—”

“Shhh,” he gently cut me off. “Not now. I know why you did it, but what matters now if we’re together.”

I couldn’t begin to describe the joy at knowing we were finally safe and together, in all the ways. This man, this king, owned me—lock, stock, and barrel—and that was the only way I wanted my life to go.

I’d keep defying him, and he’d keep punishing me.

I’d love him, and he’d love me back.

We were partners in everything that mattered.

This would never change because we were just about to make new memories that would stay with us forever.
