His look turned furious and he spat out. “That fucking, piece…”
“It’s all good,” I interrupted him quickly.
“Fuck it is,” he was pissed. “You told him you are pregnant and he moves on. When I get a hold of him, I will kill him. How dare he?”
“I didn’t tell him.”
He gave me a blank stare as if he didn’t understand. “What?”
“I didn’t tell him I am pregnant,” I told him calmly.
“What?” he asked again.
I sighed deep. “I didn’t…”
“I heard you the first time,” he cut me off. “Why didn’t you tell him?”
I shrugged my shoulders, glancing away from Rick. “Well, I was going to. But then he had a new executive assistant in his office and I decided it’s best I don’t say anything.”
He shook his head. “Gemma, you have to tell him.”
“No,” I stared back at him stubbornly.
“Gemma,” he reasoned with me. “I know that look and I understand you might be mad, but you have to tell him. You know that’s not right! He should at least know. You should give him a chance.”
“Whose side are you on?” I hissed not wanting to raise my voice. “He fucking punched you in the eye. And I did attempt to tell him; it’s not my fault he blew it before I even got a chance to tell him.”
It was his turn to glare at me. “Fuck,” he cursed quietly. “You must have fallen for him hard.”
“I did not!” The words were bitter on my tongue, knowing it’s a bold face lie.
“Then tell him,” he challenged me. “You would have never kept the girls from Jack and he was a fucking bastard to you for years.” He stopped and left the silence linger between us proving his point. Of course, I knew he was right!
We locked eyes and I took a step towards him, wrapping my arms around his waist. “What would I do without you and Betty?” I mumbled against his chest.
“Well, we won’t have to find out,” he patted my head. I actually had to laugh. “Are you laughing?”
“Yes,” I chuckled against him. “You patted my head like I am a dog or a little girl.” This time he chuckled too. “You are right,” I added. “I’ll send him a note but I’m still leaving for Croatia with the girls. And you guys will still join me, right?” I raised my head and eyes to his.
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world!” he replied and my phone vibrated off the countertop making a loud noise and I went to grab it.
I frowned when I saw Samuel Jr.’s name flash on the screen, never expecting his call.
“Hello, Samuel,” I answered the phone.
“Hey, hottie,” he greeted me cheerfully in his usual way. I shook my head, he usually called me these kinds of names when Kristoff was around just to agitate him.
“Are you trying to annoy Kristoff?” I asked him.
“Yep,” he answered. “We are at the airport in L.A. waiting for his plane.”
Memories of what we did in that plane come flooding back, causing me to blush.
“So why are you calling me?” I asked.
“Hold on, Gem,” he started. “Let me step away from him so he can’t hear what we are talking about.” Samuel should really stop agitating the man before he fired him. I debated whether to tell Samuel to agitate Kristoff pestering his newest interest but then decided against it.
“If looks could kill,” Samuel chuckled over the line. “It’s killing him that he knows I’m talking to you.” He sounded so satisfied with himself.
