“Can I go play outside?” he asked, clearly looking for anyone that would give a positive answer.
“Sure,” I finally answered, when nobody else responded. “Is that okay, Livy?”
“Of course. Go have fun.”
And he took off like hounds were chasing him. I wished I could just go with him, but I needed my coffee.
Chapter Twenty-Two
Maxim
Layla’s expression hearing I owned Revelation was one of panic and mortification. She must be worried to death that we saw her there. I could have wrung Daniel’s neck for making her feel uncomfortable. After our text exchanges last night, I decided to come clean with her but taking cues from her in terms of readiness. She wanted to take it slow, and I would accommodate that.
Unlike some other people, I thought there was no shame in what people do in bedrooms, or anywhere else, behind closed doors. As long as everyone enjoyed it and were willing participants. But there was a common misconception about what was right and what was wrong.
I watched Layla’s flushed cheeks and had to take several breaths to ensure I didn’t get a hard-on right now. I was hungry for her. That night we spent together didn’t sate me at all. If anything, it made me crave her more.
Everyone sat around the table, chatting happily. I was thrilled to see Alexander and Livy had finally come to terms with each other. Layla seemed tense from the moment she arrived, but even more so once she heard Daniel and I owned the club.
“So what do you think, Layla?” I heard Liberty’s question and Layla startled, her eyes shifting to her sister. I had to admit, I didn’t hear the question either. I was so lost thinking about having Layla under me, riding me, bent over my kitchen counter, having her in shower…
Great, I groaned silently. Now I definitely have a hard on. And I became a hypocrite because I gave myself a pep talk about taking it slow with her and I was ready to pounce on her.
“About what Livy?” Layla’s cheeks turned crimson and her lips parted. It would seem maybe I wasn’t the only one fantasizing in the broad daylight. I wondered how slow was slow for Layla. I didn’t think I could last months like this. She took a drink of her ice coffee, curiosity in her eyes.
“Shopping.” Layla gave her sister an odd look, and I wondered what that was about.
“Shopping for what?” she questioned her.
“For triplets,” she beamed.
Layla just about spit her drink out. “What?” Her eyes darted between all of us. “You are having triplets? I knew you were pregnant but-”
“Tada,” Livy beamed, sharing a glance with Alexander. My brother called me yesterday and told me the news. He couldn’t wait till today. He was over the fucking moon. I have never seen him so happy. “Hold on,” Liberty’s eyebrows frowned. “How did you know I was pregnant?”
“You were staying at my place, remember?” Layla rolled her eyes. “Nobody sleeps as much as you have, unless they are pregnant. But triplets. Are you sure?”
“Weren’t you listening? I just told you the doctor confirmed the results, and we are having triplets. It was big news and we wanted to share it with all of you.”
The look on Layla’s face was comical. She stared at her sister dumbfounded, trying to process the news.
“Like three babies?” she asked in a mutter.
“Yes, like three babies,” Liberty answered, slightly agitated. “What’s going on, Layla?”
I watched Layla blink her eyes several times, as if she tried to get herself together. I had to admit, it was an odd response to her sister’s news.
“Nothing.” The silence followed, their eyes locked in some conversation only the two of them could follow. Layla shrugged her shoulders. “Nothing! It just kind of came out of nowhere.”
All of us watched the scene unfold between them, and I knew if we weren’t here, there would be a lot more conversation going on.
“So what do you say?” Liberty asked her again.
“About what? Babies?” I had to stifle a laugh. Layla was a complete mess today, unlike her usual ice princess conduct. “I don’t know anything about babies.”
“Layla, seriously?” Livy retorted exasperatedly. It was evident Livy would be a cranky pregnant woman. Her usually thin patience was just about non-existent at this point. “About shopping. Jesus, Layla, do you want to go shopping or not?”
Alexander placed his hand on Livy’s thigh, soothing her. “Take it easy, wife.”
