This was going horrible. “Maybe,” I started glancing between the two men. “I am really sorry for calling you… well, for not being professional in the elevator. We can find you a new secretary fast. Just please don’t cancel the contract.”

The men shared a look, and the gorgeous one sitting behind the executive desk, shrugged his shoulders like all of this was annoyance and he was ready to move on. I just hoped it was in the direction I wanted it to go.

“One condition,” he spoke up for the first time since we came into his office. Not counting his command for me to sit down. “I won’t have any drama stirred up here. We also have a clear policy on work colleagues not dating.”

I frowned at the strange comment. Maybe he noticed me staring at him dumbfounded when I first saw him in the elevator. What a conceited jerk!

Like I would ever fall for or date anyone like him. Once was quite enough. I would never repeat that again. I was just unprepared for such a hot sight, that was all.

“Of course,” I answered him dryly. Today was definitely not my day. I should have stayed in bed.

“Ok,” the other guy jumped in and grinned widely, transforming his face to a friendly one. “I’m Maxim, by the way. The only way we’ll agree to forget all this and give you another chance is if you tell us what you sent to Callen.”

“What?” I asked in shock, my cheeks flaming. I quickly got the hold of my panic. “That has no importance in this situation.”

He shrugged his shoulder.

“Alexander,” he started and I raised my brow.

Who the fuck is Alexander?

As if he read my thoughts, he pointed to the man behind the executive desk, who was watching me with his gorgeous cold eyes. “That is my brother. Anyhow, Alexander gave you his condition, and I’m giving you mine. And mine is to tell us what you sent to Callen. Well me, since Alexander clearly doesn’t give a fuck.”

I cleared my throat, while my hand was nervously smoothing nonexistent wrinkles on my skirt.

“I should have stayed in bed,” I muttered miserably, suddenly sporting a horrible headache.

Maxim chuckled. “But you didn’t. And you certainly made my day more entertaining.”

“That is out of the question,” I told him firmly. It was bad enough I knew what I sent him, I did not need a stranger knowing it too. Layla and Lena wouldn’t judge. We’ve been through so much together, and the way it ended with Callen, they’d be behind me one hundred percent.

“C’mon,” Maxim joked around. “It can’t be that bad.”

“It doesn’t matter if it is or not,” I told him. Layla’s anger edged me on last night. It hurt to know that so many people were witnesses to me being dumped. So at her encouragement and being completely drunk, I sent him a text message telling him he was biggest mistake and wishing him to experience the same humiliation. Another text followed with a description of an oral sex scene we wrote for my author and told him he should consider taking some classes in sex education.

“Well, that is my condition,” he replied firmly.

Taking a deep resigned breath, I dug my phone up again and scrolled to my sent message folder. Thank God, I deleted most of them and only the last one was still there. The one with the description of oral sex scene and advising him to take some sex ed to improve his skills in the bedroom.

“I won’t tell you, but here. You can read it if that’s what it will take for you not to cancel the contract.”

I handed him the phone and he took it. A few moments of silence followed as his eyes darted across the screen of my phone.

“Whoa, I would never have seen something like that coming from you.”

“He deserved that,” I tried to justify myself; although I knew it was a lame excuse.

I put my cool hand on my forehead. I felt so embarrassed, my cheeks burned and I was sure my entire body was flaming at this point. This was not going to be a good place to work, I could tell already. Maxim went to hand his phone to his brother, but he brushed it off, uninterested.

“Thank God,” I murmured, realizing too late that I said it out loud. I grabbed my phone and stuffed it back into my purse.

“So one week, maximum two, and I’ll make sure to find you a good secretary.” I glanced between the two men, making promises. I would have to ensure Lena found someone pronto. If she couldn’t, I’d beg Layla to take my place. She liked arrogant assholes and rich men.

“I kind of like you.” Maxim chuckled and I met his eyes. He winked at me and gave me thumbs up, then added, “I don’t think we’ll need another secretary. It sounds boring after meeting you today.”

I rolled my eyes. “It’s not every day I text my ex, you know. It is better if you don’t get your hopes up.”

Alexander raised his hand to stop Maxim from replying to me, a slight irritation in his movement, and spoke up.
