I went through all my notes and what I remembered from the meeting.
At the end, I added in a dry tone, “It was the most boring meeting I had ever attended, but I hope you are ecstatic about my summary.”
I stared at him in challenge. Tonight, I would call Lena and tell her I couldn’t do it anymore. I was almost two weeks into this, and if I do another week, I’d kill him. The combination of his cold attitude and my sexual frustration was making it increasingly hard to keep my cool. He looked unimpressed.
“Is that everything?” I asked, in the sweetest tone I could muster.
“Yes,” he responded, again in that agitatedly calm and cold voice.
I had to control myself not to roll my eyes at him. I glanced between both of them, I couldn’t believe they were brothers. Although physically they had resemblance, they were polar opposites in character.
I stood up, ready to get the hell out of there.
“Good night, Maxim.” I ignored Alexander and I couldn’t leave his office fast enough. Although even as I walked away from him fuming, I was aware of a throbbing ache between my thighs.
How can I be turned on and pissed off at the same time? This wasn’t good. I needed to get away from Alexander Caldwell before I did something stupid.
Chapter Sixteen
Liberty
As soon as I got home, I dialed up Lena.
“Lena, I can’t do this anymore. You have to convince him he’d be better off having another secretary.” It was my greeting to her. “I’ll kill him. Tell him I am dead. Tell him anything, just convince him to get someone else from you.”
I opted not to tell her that I was in between killing the man and fantasizing about his hard, naked body as he thrusted hard into me. I put my cool hand against my forehead hoping to hold on to my sanity.
“Well, hello to you as well,” she greeted me.
“I can’t do this anyone,” I complained in a whiny tone. “By the time I get home, I can’t even work on my ghost writing projects. My inspiration is drained dealing with that man. He is driving me nuts. Nuts, I tell you.”
“That’s odd,” she replied and now her calmness was getting on my nerves as well. “I called to check how things are going today and he said he likes your work and wants to keep you working as his secretary.”
“What?” I couldn’t believe my ears. There was definitely some misunderstanding there. “That can’t be. I am telling you, he doesn't like me or my work and purposely irritates me.”
“Don’t you think you are overreacting a bit?” she asked with a chuckle.
“No, I’m not. I passed the stage of overreacting.”
“Hmmm,” was all she replied. “I think he actually likes you a lot. Especially after our nightclub incident.”
“Are you sure you weren’t speaking with his brother, Maxim?” I asked, ignoring her nightclub comment.
“Yes, I’m sure,” she replied. “Ok, I have to go. Larry and I are going out for dinner. It is our first date this year.”
She was gushing, all happy. It seemed I did not pick a good time to call her.
“Have fun,” I told her. “Who is watching Brandon? I’m surprised you didn’t ask me. I love spending time with him.”
“I know,” she spoke softly on the phone. “I didn’t want you to stress coming over with the work schedule. The neighbor’s sixteen-year-old daughter is watching him. And we won’t be late.”
“Ok, I’m going to let you go,” I told her. “Have a great time.”
“Liberty?” she called out.
“Yes?”
“Thank you,” she spoke softly. “For everything.”
