Chapter Sixteen
As we all entered MacLaren's castle in the early afternoon, Lachlan and I hand in hand, a commotion greeted us from all sides.
“There you are, Lachlan,” Margaret exclaimed. “There are loads of books being delivered. Where do you want them? Library?”
He shook his head in confirmation.
“They are already here?” I couldn’t hide my surprise.
“C’mon,” Lachlan pulled me towards the back of the castle. “Let me show you the library.”
“Damn,” I mumbled enviously. “You have your own library?”
We entered a room and a large storelike library, except with the vibe of the fifteenth century, filled with books stretched in front of me.
“Wow,” I sighed in admiration. I pulled my hand out of his, glancing around, wanting to see it all. “This is just… wow.”
I walked around wanting to see it all. His library was better and larger than many of the city's libraries I’ve seen in my lifetime.
There was one messy corner where I assumed all his latest purchases were being stacked till it could get organized.
“No wonder you barely spend any time in your city apartment,” I told him, remembering his comment and glanced backwards at him. “I wouldn’t either.”
His eyes had a strange look as they watched me. I smiled hesitantly at him, unsure how to interpret his look.
“I’m glad to hear you say that,” he answered, puzzling me even more.
I glanced back to all the books he just bought.
“Where are you going to put all your new books?”
“You tell me,” he answered. “They are all yours.”
I laughed happily, it felt like a brand new feeling since it’d been a while since I felt happy.
“Lachlan,” I beamed as I met him in the middle of the room. Placing my hands against his chest, I stepped closer to him, our bodies flushed. “Have you seen my apartment?”
“I have,” he replied, his hands smoothed over my shoulders, following the curve from my neck down my arms. My body instantly heated up in response to his touch, a shiver ran down my spine, and my heartbeat sped up.
“Are you two going to get it on in here?” Of course it would be Ainslee with her damn sassy mouth. “If so, we’re going to clear out.”
I quickly took a step back and glanced to Ainslee who had a devilish smile on her face. Callen had his both arms enveloped around her. Margaret and Bram were nowhere to be found. They must have left.
“Ainslee,” I told her sweetly, “I think a better question is whether you and Callen can stop yourself from getting it on. Please just keep away from my Scottish legends if you can’t control yourselves.”
For a moment, there was a shock on Ainslee’s face and then she burst into a fit of laughter. Lachlan and Callen laughed too.
“Oh, Eve,” Ainslee was wiping tears out of her eyes. “I did not see that one coming from you.”
I shook my head. That woman could drive a sane person insane with her sassy mouth. Of course, I wasn’t close to sane. She should have totally seen it coming, as many times she’d thrown hints my way without a filter.
“You should have,” I cackled.
“Okay, okay,” she mused. “I call a peace truce.”
Lachlan's phone beeped and he glanced at it.
“Ok, I have to get some work stuff done,” he told me and pulled me in for a kiss on my mouth, not caring who was around. I wasn’t used to open affections but it seemed to be who he was.
