“Let’s try to eat,” he suggested softly, after we stood there for a long while. He wasn’t moving though as I nodded into his chest.

Finally we both moved and sat down at the table to eat. Neither one of us had much of an appetite after everything but we forced a few bites. After dinner, he suggested we watch a movie.

I agreed, not ready to go home quite yet. We sat on the couch and ironicallyBraveheartcame on.

“Isn’t this a movie about Scotland and England’s war?” I asked.

He shrugged his shoulder. “Yes, but I’ve never seen it.”

I gave him a shocked look. “Seriously?”

His stare told me he was completely serious.

“Well,” I told him. “You better leave it on. You should see it.”

We spent the rest of the evening on the couch watchingBraveheart. I tried to focus on the movie and Lachlan next to me on the couch, instead of letting my thoughts wonder.

We were almost towards the end of the movie and it was dark outside.

“Spend the night here,” he suggested although it almost sounded like a statement.

“No, I can’t,” I told him.

“Why not?” he asked. “You won’t even know I’m here.”

“Yes, I will,” I claimed. There was no possibility of not noticing Lachlan McLaren. “I need some time alone.”

After tagging back and forth, he finally realized he wasn’t going to convince me.

“Give me your number,” he said and I looked at him frowning. Then he added, “Please.”

I gave it to him. If that was what he needed for peace of mind, then it was the least I could do.

“Lachlan,” I started remembering he needed updates on production for the new project. “What information do you need over the weekend in regards to the production? Same? I’m going into the office so I can email it to you or I can call you with it.”

Relief crossed his face and something else. “I’m going in to work tomorrow and Sunday too,” he replied. “We can touch base in my office.”

I nodded and he asked, “Should I come at the same time or sleep in?”

It was the first time he was making plans on the exact time to meet to walk to work together.

“Same time,” I responded.

That night, sleep was hard to come by, and when it finally came, old nightmares plagued me.
