He laughed. “I’m sure it is. I think they’ve decided to marry you off.”
“Maybe they don’t want me coming to their little rendezvous anymore,” I told him jokingly.
We both laughed and with his arm around me, we walked down the street towards our side of the town.
“Lachlan,” I started unsure whether I should even bring it up or play ignorance.
“Yes?”
“I really like your Uncle Colin,” I told him. “I get the sense he doesn’t like to see me around you. What is that about?”
Lachlan actually chuckled. “He likes you very much and is protective of you. He is worried I’ll corrupt you. So he doesn’t like to see me around you, not the other way around.”
I smiled, although I didn’t understand his comment. “Not sure I follow.”
We were in front of my place now and he bent his head to place a warm kiss on my cheek. “He wants to make sure my intentions are honest.”
“Oh.” What should I say to that? What intentions?
“Good evening, Eve,” he murmured softly against my cheek. “I’ll see you in the morning.”
I nodded and he walked away towards his apartment building, as I stood there wondering what exactly he meant. Deciding I could ask him for clarification in the morning, I went into my building and wondered, not for the first time this week, how come he was staying in his apartment. I remembered his comment that he rarely stayed in the city anymore.
