I didn’t trust it for a second. And of course, that just made messed-up me want to risk it all the more. Because I knew what he was suggesting as payment for my freedom.

“I won’t be your mate, Corry. You can’t have me in that way,” I said, my breath coming out in pants as his tongue slowly skated down over the length of my throat, cleaning off any traces of the other vampire.

“The difference between a bite and a claiming mark is that my cock has to be buried inside you, along with my fangs, Red. My brothers and I made an agreement right after the council’s meeting that the only one who gets to do that to you is the one you pick as king. You’re free to spread your blood and cunt around however you wish, but we’ve all agreed to no double-dipping until you make a decision.”

My blood heated, the warmth sinking straight to the place between my thighs. They made rules, contingencies to this little fucked up game ofThe Bachelorette. And I wasn’t even there to throw in my two cents. I’m just the prize, the piece of meat to fuck and feast on and sit pretty on the throne beside them.

Fuck that. If I had the strength and the power, I’d bring every last one of them to their knees and take the throne for myself while leaving all four of the fucked-up princes in the dust.

But that wasn’t on the table, not when I was still very much a mortal.

“I want to have fun with you, Red. But I won’t be taking your V-card, not tonight.”

“When you’re done, I can have your bike?”

“You can have my bike.”

Stealing a breath, I closed my eyes and nodded. “Alright.”

Chapter twenty-five

Bitter Goodbyes and Bloody Bargains

“Straddlethebike,Red,”Corry commanded, pointing at the motorcycle between us. He let go of my arm and waited for me to obey.

My heart took off like a jet engine in my chest, my pulse roaring in my ear. “W–wait. You don’t mean for us to do it here?”

I didn’t care if we weren’t having full-blown sex. We were at a gas station, standing under a bunch of fluorescent lights. If anyone happened to drive by, we would be lit up like a freaking national monument.

“It’s one in the morning, and we’re off the main road. Hardly anyone comes this way in daylight, let alone at night.”

Swallowing the lump in my throat, I sat down on the bike’s seat. My short dress—or what remained of it—rode up my thighs as they parted to straddle the vehicle.

Corry’s crimson eyes blazed with something carnal as they slid over the length of my body, making my skin burn despite the fact that I was still soaking wet from the rain. He finally released my arm and strode around the bike, drinking in the way I looked with my sopping red hair plastered to my blood-streaked skin and my ripped dress, which failed to cover most of my body.

“Fuck me, Ruby Renada Baxter. You look good enough to eat.”

I struck him with an icy glare, trying to hide how damn hot he was making me with just a single look. “That’s what those other vampires thought.”

The youngblood’s expression hardened as it slipped to the body that still lay on the concrete. “Part of me is glad Allister got away. He’ll crawl back to his coven and let them know the Cape Cod Coven isn’t to be fucked with. We’ll ship Malachite’s head back to them just in case they don’t believe his brother’s story.”

“Malachite and Allister?”

“Two of the Boston Coven’s messenger boys. Their coven is one of the few not a part of the council. They’ve been trying to take over for fucking years. They never liked your father as king. Makes sense that they would attack his daughter, especially since you’re only a half-blood.”

“But doesn’t it seem kind of random that they just happened across me?”

“There was nothing random about it. They were looking for you. Which can only mean there’s a snitch on the council, someone who is slipping information to them.”

“That would explain how they knew about the way my father died.”

Corry’s brows shot up. “Shit! What did they say?”

“It doesn’t matter now,” I snapped. “Fucking bite me, and let’s get this over with so I can get the hell out of this nightmare.”

“Stop that. You don’t get to do that.”

My eyes narrowed. “Do what?”
