Was I actually inviting a vampire to suck my blood?

Bloody hell. Hours ago, I was curled up on my bedroom floor with a werewolf romance and a slice of meatloaf. Now here I was in a public restroom somewhere on the outskirts of Quincy with a strange guy telling him to bite me.

Fuck. And I was here for it. But that might have just been the booze talking.

Whatever. Some people did drugs. And all things considered, letting myself get bitten by a pretty nice vampire was a much better idea. Right? Especially if I was going to be returning the favor. Because he smelled freaking good too, and sinking my teeth into him was a much better alternative than hunting down that poor cashier.

I pulled back my red hair in invitation and grinned at Corry in the mirror. “Go ahead, Youngblood. Bite me.”

Chapter eleven

A Bloody Kiss and a Brutal Vow

“Ishouldn’t,”Corrybreathedagainst me, his hot breath feathering my throat where the needle-sharp tips of his fangs scraped.

Shouldn’t. But he wanted to. Something deeply instinctual wanted him to bite me too. It stretched much deeper than a drunken curiosity.

My body throbbed for his penetration… And not just from his fangs. The blood in my veins hummed for him like a siren’s song and stretched to much more intimate places than where his lips were currently pressed.

“Why not?” I asked in a ragged whisper.

“Because you’re not my mate. No one’s claimed you yet.”

“Mate? Claim? You mean like werewolves?”

He nodded, his nostrils flaring as if my scent was too much for him to resist much longer. “Pretty much the same, yeah. Vampires deliver a claiming bite to our chosen mates, which serves as a warning to all others of our kind to stay away. By letting me bite you, you’re giving me way more than your blood, Ruby.”

The corners of my mouth lifted. “And what would I be giving you?”

His tongue snaked out from between his fangs and slid over my jugular, tasting me. The growl that slipped from his lips was the most erotic thing I’d ever heard. It was sensual, masculine, and completely predatory. A throbbing, hot hunger pooled low in my belly, and I pressed back into him.

His arms curled around me, drawing me in. “You’d be giving me your submission. My scent would be on you, telling every other male you’re mine.”

I bit my lip so hard a drop of ruby-red blood slipped down my chin. I belonged to no one. I spent too long locked up to ever let anyone control me again. So if I wanted to fool around with this vampire, with any of them for that matter, it wouldn’t be with fangs.

Just as I was about to push him away, the door to the restroom ripped open and there stood Vincent Feral, looking pissed as fuck.

Great. Here came the big growly dick energy to spoil the mood.

“Get the fuck away from her, Corry,” Vincent snarled. Corry did not let go. His eyes were two obsidian disks with thin rings of red around them. His fangs were still dropped, dripping with saliva and so dangerously close to that delicate juncture between my neck and shoulder.

“She wants me.”

“She’s basically a brand new vampire, and on top of that, she’s a sheltered kid. She doesn’t know what she wants.”

“I’m not a kid,” I argued. “If I decide to let Corry bite me, isn’t that my prerogative?”

“You don’t know what it is you’re asking.”

“Why do you care?”

“Because you don’t belong with us. You may have the blood of the vampire king in your veins, but that doesn’t mean you’re cut out to live among us, let alone be our queen. You don’t belong, Princess. After tonight you can go your own way and take a human mate, or do whatever the fuck it is you want to do. As long as it’s not Corry.”

Vincent lifted his murderous glare to his brother, and his eyes turned to slits as he noted the way the youngblood held me possessively.

The older vampire came into the room and let the door close behind him. “Step away from her,” he ordered, a low rattle rumbling up from his chest, warning the other male to back down. “Don’t make me fight you, Corry. You know I’ll win.”

Several tense seconds of silence crawled by on their hands and knees as the two vampires stared each other down.
