“Can vampires even get drunk?”

“Yeah, but it would work better if we drink the blood of an intoxicated human. More fun that way too.”

“Cool. Well, that cashier seemed pretty willing to let you take whatever you wanted from her, so while you go do that, I’ll be dying my hair.”

“Nah. Vincent would kill me. I’m not really allowed to be around humans yet since I’m still a youngblood. I was only turned about six months ago. Can’t control myself too well when feeding.”

“You know, I almost thought you weren’t a vampire when I first saw you. Since you didn’t have red eyes like your brother.”

“Oh yeah, we get the creepy red eyes when we’re hungry.” His grin stretched wide, and he winked. “Or horny. Or both. Older vampires can control it. Funny Vin couldn’t earlier. He’s around blood all the time, so he’s normally better at reigning in his thirst. He even fed before we got to your house.”

We stopped right outside the ladies’ room. I turned on Corry. “So you knew my dad?”

His smile slipped, and he scrubbed the back of his skull with his hand. “Um, kinda. Oh yeah, look what I got you!”

He dug around in the bag, extracting what he had bought alongside the vodka. It was obviously a distraction, and damn, it worked when I saw what it was.

“Oh, a cell phone!”

“Haha, yeah. Just a cheap pre-paid thing, but it will do for now until we get you on the coven’s family plan. Vin is doing a pretty shit job at showing you how you’re not a prisoner anymore. So I thought this would be a good start.”

I looked down at the phone, a mix of emotions filling me. “Um, thanks. This is nice, Corry.” My cheeks warmed. “But uh…I don’t know who I’d call. I don’t know anyone.”

His grin returned, and while Vincent’s radiated arrogance and hostility that seemed to fill me with fire, Corry’s only warmed me, making me feel at ease. “You know me. Here.” He took the phone, entered his contact information and handed it back to me with a wink.

“That will fill up fast, Princess. Need help with your hair?”

“Aren’t you supposed to be a dangerous youngblood or whatever you called it? Also, you commented earlier on my virginity… Should I be inviting you into the bathroom with me?”

Corry let out a laugh that reached his eyes, making his eyes sparkle with mirth. “I said Vincent probably can’t handle you, Princess. If Vincent can’t handle you, you’ll freaking destroy me, so I’d be an idiot for trying anything.”

I gave him a glare of warning then pushed open the bathroom door. “Fine.”

He stayed where he was, surprised that I had actually agreed. “Okay, but full disclosure, I am kind of an idiot.”

Laughing, I disappeared inside the restroom and left the door open in invitation. Okay, so was it a bad idea to be alone with a baby vampire unsupervised? Probably. But he seemed a hell of a lot less dangerous than his counterpart.

“Come on, Corry.”

Chapter ten

A Bite for a Bite

Itonlytookafew minutes to apply the dye. Luckily my hair was light enough that I didn’t need bleach. I sat in one of the stalls with the lid down and the stall door open, so I had a view of Corry, who sat on the sink.

I froze when I realized I could see his reflection in the mirror. “I can see you in the mirror.”

He blinked in confusion, so I continued. “I couldn’t see Vincent in the mirror back at home.”

Corry’s expression stretched with understanding. “Ah. Yeah, it must have been an old mirror.”

“Probably. A lot of the furniture came with the house when my mom bought it, and that was before I was born.”

“That explains it. A long time ago, mirrors were backed in silver, so it’s only in old mirrors that we can’t see ourselves. Course that probably doesn’t apply to you since you’re only half-vampire.”

“So silver really can hurt you?”

“Yeah. It can hurt a lot. It can’t kill us with simple contact, but it’ll burn like a bitch.” He shifted on the sink and cast the restroom door a nervous glance. “You know, Vin’s gonna come looking for us soon. He’s gonna be pissed.”
