The back door was open, swinging on its hinges.

They were gone. What the fuck? Where could they have gone? My thoughts exploded into full panic mode.

Logic told me that Sharpe had taken him back to the coven, where there were more supplies and equipment.

But I wasn’t going off facts. I was going off how I felt.

My mark was so cold, as cold as death.

My mate was in danger.

I hadn’t the slightest clue where Sharpe was taking Eros, but I was sure as shit that it wasn’t to get medical care. The other guys would be furious knowing I left to find Eros alone, especially on Boston Coven territory.

Still, somehow, I knew there wasn’t time to get help. Sharpe was using Eros to lure me away from the other vampires.

The good doctor had to be the mole.

And damn it, I was the idiot about to take the bait.

Chapter seventy-two

Rescue

Theparkinglotwasas chaotic as it was inside the warehouse. People were being released once they were mesmerized, and they were all stumbling back to their cars, their faces wearing dazed expressions. It was like an episode ofThe Walking Dead.

I ran through the crowd, making my way to the motorcycles. My throat constricted when my eyes landed on Corry’s bike. He was still here. Of course, he was here. He wouldn’t have left without me.

I wish I had the luxury of giving him the same courtesy. He wouldn’t want me leaving without him. Not to mention Sterling would have a total conniption once he found out I had disobeyed his orders. But there wasn’t time to look for an escort. The mating mark on my shoulder was so cold, it burned. I had to clench my teeth to keep myself from screaming. Eros was in serious peril, and this excruciating pain wouldn’t go away until he was back with me, safe and sound.

Wrestling the keys out of my hoodie pocket, I slapped myself onto Corry’s Ninja, started the engine, and tore out of the parking lot in a spray of gravel and exhaust smoke.

Navigating the streets of Boston should have been impossible, not just because I’d never been to the city before or had next to no driving experience, but because I had no idea where Sharpe had taken Eros. By all rights, I shouldn’t have had the slightest clue where to go. Yet, by some insane miracle, I did. It had to be my mating mark on Eros’ hand; it was like a tracking device with the receiver buried deep in the fabric of my being.

Corry had mentioned that mated couples could always find one another. At the time, that little fact had made me pretty damn nervous. I didn’t like the idea of the depraved Deathwish keeping tabs on me. Now, I was thankful because if we were lucky, it would save Eros’ life.

Sharpe couldn’t have gotten far with Eros. By my estimation, they hadn’t even left the city. With how my mark was throbbing and easing from sharp agony to a dull nuisance, I knew I was getting closer.

My pulse was on the rise as the trail led me out of the densely populated city center of Boston through a residential area to a shady part of town filled with old industrial buildings and factories.

When my mark burned hot like a brand, I stopped the bike alongside the curb outside a huge lot with a factory beside it. Judging by all the broken windows and the graffiti on the brick walls, the place was abandoned. A tall chain-link fence surrounded the lot, with a gate that was cracked open.

I strode over to the gate and peered down at a busted chain with a locked padlock still attached, laying on the ground. The chain that had been holding the gate closed hadn’t been removed by bolt cutters. The links had been pried open. Only a vampire could pull off strength like that.

Peering inside the lot, I spotted a black BMW parked in the back beside the factory’s roll-up door. I’d seen that car a thousand times parked in the driveway outside my bedroom window whenever Dr. Sharpe made house calls.

I had to hand it to the slick fuck. This was a good place for an ambush. Or at least, that’s what I fully expected to be waiting for me inside the factory. This entire area was so isolated, it looked straight out of the apocalypse. No one would hear my screams here. I shivered, folding my arms around myself.

I knew it was stupid coming here alone. But Eros was in danger, and the monster inside me wasn’t going to stop and wait for someone to rescue her mate for her.

Slipping through the gap in the chain-link fence, I cringed at the fresh memory of Eros’ face mashed into one of these. I knew darkness lurked inside Vincent Feral, but I could have never guessed the extent of fucked-up savagery to which he was capable.

I was scared for Eros, and I was pretty damn terrified of what Sharpe had in store for me. Adding the fact that Vincent justlefton top of it all was just too much to unload at the moment. How could he just leave me like that? After I pretty much came out with my true feelings, he turned his back and left me. Even after proving I could handle him.

Me.The half-human Vincent had patronized on the reg had made the notorious Feral King submit.

He had been horrified by the destruction the other part of him had caused. I would have thought he’d been aware of his other nature. Then again, Vincent did say he thought that part of him had died when he was turned into a vampire. Now that he knew it had just been dormant, and his jealousy had awoken it, he didn’t think it was safe to be around me.

Stupid male.
