Even though the warehouse had erupted into a total state of chaos, Vincent didn’t stop beating on Eros. He pulled his opponent back from the cage, whose face was already swelling from the blunt trauma, and held him up by his hair for me to see.

Vincent was so tall by this point, Eros’ feet didn’t touch the ground. With the way he dangled, the muscular male looked pretty helpless in the monster’s grip.

Eros tried his hardest to escape, snarling and thrashing, his hands pulling at Vincent’s claws.

Feral slammed him into the cage again. The whole fence rattled. Everything in me trembled. “Vincent, stop!”

I clung to the fence as Feral’s monster mashed Eros into the fence again and again. The meshed metal cut into Eros’ face, pulverizing his flesh. Inches away from the gruesome beating, my own mate’s blood showered me.

Thick gobs of black and clumps of skin stuck to the mesh.

It was horrific.

Feral had completely lost control and was killing his brother, intent on smashing him to death right in front of my face.

“Stop it! Please! Somebody stop him!” I cried and screamed, shaking the fence. I couldn’t get to them. The ref and all the other Salem Coven vamps—along with every other supernatural—were too busy rounding up the humans.

Vincent was going to kill Eros, and I was completely helpless to stop it.

The monster that had consumed my dark knight held Eros back, about to crush him against the barrier for what had to be the dozenth time, but he paused when his victim sputtered.

Blood spewed from Eros’ mouth as he choked out a few broken words. “D–don’t l–let her watch. If you’re go–nna k–kill me. D–don’t let her watch.”

Feral’s cavernous laugh stretched down to my heart, and it completely shattered seeing the utter lack of mercy in his hell-dark eyes.

“Don’t let her watch?” His voice was unearthly, two-toned like two people were speaking instead of one. “The first time I killed you, there was no family, no friends who cared whether you lived or died. Now you have a mate to watch as the life drains from your eyes.”

He threw Eros against the fence again with such brutal force that Eros went completely limp. He was barely more than a beaten, swollen mass of flesh and bone. A pool of black covered the mat, oozing through the mesh fence.

“Stop, please! Please!” My cries had gone shrill and ragged. No one was stopping to help.

No one noticed.

The mark on my shoulder was burning so hot I screamed. It hurt so damn fucking much. Because of our mating bond, it was almost like I was on the receiving end of Vincent Feral’s brutality.

And he was just using that pain as fuel to do even more damage.

Eros was about to die, and no one was here to stop it. Except for me.

I had to intervene, had to calm Vincent’s monster.

With my pulse hammering hard in my ear, I scanned the cage and found the door.

Running to it, I flung myself inside and slammed the door shut behind me, locking myself in with the monster.

Chapter seventy-one

Dance with the Beast

ThemomentIenteredthe ring, the monster lumbered around, turning to face me.

He was so large, his shadow swallowed me whole.

His nostrils flexed, and his mouth contorted into a predatorial grin. He dropped Eros to the ground like a sack of potatoes. Seeing his lifeless form lie there, tears burned my vision.

What in the actual bloody fuck was I doing? I didn’t even know what Feral was, but whatever hellish beast had come out to play tonight, it was stronger than me by a landslide.

I was growing stronger by the day, but there was no way I could take on Feral like this. He was as big as a tank, and if he could turn Eros into a pulp with just a few blows, what could he do to me?
