"A male who saw his son's mating threatened," the sweetest voice in the world says.

The air turns blue from the cursing that fills the air.

"Baby, it's not that we think-"

"I didn't mean to say that-

"You have the sweetest voice." Yeah, we all know who said the inane, dumbass comment. Ezra, I swear I should have strangled him some more. Maybe if I killed some brain cells, he'd stop flirting with Lyri nonstop.

Lyri smiles faintly at Ezra, moving into the forest from the shadows to kiss him on the cheek. "I don't want you to think that I need you to scare some male off," she tells Rhet. "It's over and done with him. You all are my males now."

He stares at her, and I swear to the goddess little hearts are pouring out of his eyes and popping in the air between them. I'm a little jealous, honestly. I take a deep breath, exhaling in a whoosh. I can't expect her to manage all three of us if I let my jealousy get out-of-control.

She walks to me and wraps her arms around me. "Bear," she mumbles. And just like that, everything is right in the world.

Tears track her face, leaves and twigs are stuck in her hair. The shirt-dress she's wearing is clean, but her face has a couple of streaks of mud.

She's beautiful. Who would reject this female?
