"No. No, I wouldn't have-"
"You fucker. You fucker," Daan groans, sagging against the enforcers. "My mate... Shamed," he gasps, "why?" His eyes dart around; his wolf abandoning him for the moment. I wonder at that, at the disappearance of an alpha wolf. Is this how Daan managed to resist the mate bond for so long? Has he been suppressing his wolf for all this time?
Daan glares hatefully at me, "how could you fuck them? You never deserved to be a luna. You smell like them! They're all over you!"
I shrug one shoulder. His words should hurt more, but I have other concerns right now, "I am a Luna, Daan," I tell him. My heat is rising again, making me careless with my words. I want to be touched again, not stuck having this conversation. "I am meant to be at the top. I earned it, and it wasn't by fucking you," I toss a disdainful glance at the female who is silently weeping in Mari's arms.
"You earned-" Daan starts to rasp.
"My males," I smile at Ezra, who is nuzzling my shoulder. "I earned my males. I earned my place as top female, despite you. I earned my freedom from you when your father decided to destroy me. And I had to work hard to earn my males. I had to recover from quite a lot, didn't I, Sunshine?"
Ezra smiles at me and kisses the tip of my nose. I purr. I know my Sunshine needs to be reassured that I love him. "Love you," I murmur.
His smile grows to ear-splitting proportions. "I love you, more," he husks out.
"Get away from her!" Daan howls insanely. I think... I think there may be more wolves in the glade, now.
I slowly peel my eyes away from my sunny green ones to glare at the raging male. His wolf is back. I almost... almost... feel sorry for the beast inside Daan. Not entirely, though. A wolf is part of us, an instinctive force, a spirit that is us as much as our own souls. Daan ignored his wolf by ignoring me, but his wolf was content to have Cloe around because I was still there, wasn't I? I was chasing Daan in my way, reassuring his wolf that his truemate was his.
Now I'm theirs. And, more importantly, they'remine.
"Rhet," I whine, rubbing my body on Ezra because Thjis and Rhet had stepped forward protectively. "I'm getting hot, again," I tell him.
"Alright, pretty Angel," he murmurs. "Jax, I assume that you understand what needs to happen here?" his voice is cold enough to chill even my heat a little. Carmichael postures next to us, a silent vigilante, eyes narrowed in a clear promise of violence. I know Teague is here... somewhere out of sight, hopefully hiding his eyes from my playtime. Hopefully.
"I do," Alpha Jax says raspily. But he just stands there, looking like he's been turned to stone.
It's Luna Gloria who steps forward and takes over, "lock them up. My idiot great-grandson and his false mate. You know what? Lock up that dumb fool, too," she indicates Drew with an indolent wave of her hand, much to the future Beta's shock and dismay.
The enforcers glance at Alpha Jax. He nods, just once. He isn't bowed, but I can see the brittle delicacy of his stance. One decisive blow, and he'll fracture into a thousand pieces. What a terrible, terrible blow. Oh, well. I have other pressing concerns. I pick up Ezra's hand and push it between my legs. He smirks but starts to rub gently.
"We'll wait for you, Luna. May your heat bring you pups for the pack," Luna Gloria says formally.
Rhet scoops me up, walking away from the devastating scene as I writhe in his arms, my she-wolf ecstatic to be in the arms of her cat-killer.
I can hear Daan screaming and howling, half-wolf, half-man, as we walk away.
"What will happen?" I gasp out, barely keeping my mind out of the gutter enough to ask.
"Nothing you need to worry about now, baby," Thjis says.
"You just need to feel," Rhet adds.
