"Do you need help, Bear?" she asks me, nibbling on her lip.

Devel snickers. "I can drop you," I warn him. "No, baby. I've got him, if you can change his sheets."

"I can do it," he mumbles.

"No, you really can't," I say sarcastically. Carefully I step into the shower, angling Devel under the spray.

"I'll Claim my female," he slurs.

"Really? Why almost kill yourself then?"

"Not that female," he mumbles, "she thinks I don't know about her, but I do. Her mate... my brother… is planning to kill her mate, but I will kill him first."

"Ah, interesting?" I have no idea if he's even aware of what he's saying.

"He's a bad wolf," Devel insists, coughing slightly as water runs into his mouth. I rinse his hair and lather, feeling exactly like a 'momma bear,' goddess.

"U-huh," I agree. His hair is disgusting. Maybe I should just buzz cut it like mine?

"Very bad," he sways. "She's hurt, too, like the Luna. I'll just Claim my female. Good idea, right?"

"Sure, Devel. It's an awesome idea. Close your mouth." I rinse off the suds. Goddess, this is a rinse, lather, repeat job. Emphasis on the repeat.

"Good idea," he mumbles. His eyes are drifting closed.

I wrestle him out of the shower a few minutes later, practically dragging him back to the clean cot.

"Is he unconscious?" Lyri whispers behind me.

"Just about. This took a lot out of him, but it was important to get all those damn cuts clean. And he smells."

"Do not," Devel slurs in a soft murmur.

"Shh, go to sleep, Dev," Lyri soothes him.

"Speaking of sleeping..." I say once we tuck Devel back into his cot.

"No. I'm training, Thjis. I haven't run today, and my Heat is going to hit me soon."

I look at her steadily. She's stronger already, her muscles toning from just a few days of working with Carmichael. She's glowing with health.

Tonight is a full moon. I don't mention it, and neither does she. She's a luna. It's her first Heat. It's a full moon. She's going to eat us alive, and I can't fucking wait.

Her eyes narrow on me. "What are you thinking about?"

"You."

She smiles. "Oh, OK." She starts to head out of the barn.

"Where are you going, baby?"

"Outside, maybe for a swim in the pond. I'm hot."

Yes. Yes, you are.
