"Hey, what's wrong?"
"My family," I explain in a weak voice.
Rhet guides Wheat into a new trail turning into the woods. He coaxes Wheat down the path to the right, murmuring in my ear, "he likes the left trail. It's longer."
I look around, appreciating the quiet forest, the still winter air.
"Did your family contact you, pretty?" he asks me. I cringe. I thought we were dropping the subject.
"No," I whisper. "I was in lock-up for four days, then..."
"I know," he hurries to say.
"I don't... I don't know if they tried, but Alpha Jax was so angry...." I shudder. He had been livid. I thought that he was going to execute me for sleeping with his precious son. I guess, in a way, he did execute me.
"This is one of the trails we like to take the pups on when we run. You should be ready to start shifting again in a couple of weeks." Rhet thankfully changes the subject.
My wolf perks up. She was hiding away from the discussion about her family. It hurts to feel as though we were abandoned. It hurts worse to think that we left them.
"Then I can see if your wolf is a solid color or not."
I giggle but don't tell him what my wolf looks like. He's probably solid black or something cool like that. I don't ask him. I kind of like the mystery.
