Now, the four-poster bed was done up magnificently in brand new linen. The floors had been polished. New furniture stood in the room. There were new lace curtains on the windows. But the view from them was just the same as it had been that day, except tonight, there was no rain. Tonight was beautiful and clear, with a brilliantly white full moon shining down upon the sea.

The door opened. He was here at last.

Jane’s heart started racing. Percy walked slowly towards her.

“How beautiful you are,” he whispered, his eyes sweeping over her. “More beautiful than I have ever seen you before.”

“That is because of you,” she whispered. “It is you who has made me beautiful, husband.”

Gently, he reached for her. In one slow, agonising movement, he pulled her white nightgown over her head, letting it fall to the floor. She was entirely naked before him for the very first time.

He gasped as his eyes roamed over her body. Jane felt a warmth spreading through her. She thought she would be embarrassed by this moment, but she wasn’t. She squared her shoulders, offering herself to him.

“I dreamt of you like this,” he said in a tortured whisper. “You emerged from the sea like a goddess. The goddess you are.”

Her heart flipped over at his words. He reached out, running his hands all over her body. She closed her eyes in ecstasy. Then she felt his mouth upon her breast, seeking a nipple. A jolt of sensation tore through her as he found it, pulling it deep into his mouth, suckling intently as he caressed her body.

She was almost delirious with desire by the time he swept her up into his arms, carrying her to the bed. He laid her down almost reverently before quickly shedding his clothes. Her eyes widened as she took in his body. The sweep of his broad chest and the proud jut of his manhood. How beautiful he was.

He joined her on the bed, his mouth trailing feverish kisses down the length of her body, reaching his destination. She moaned in anticipation as he gently opened her legs, his tongue seeking the warm folds of her most intimate area, lapping and licking with abandon. His tongue flickered faster still as she moaned louder, almost unable to endure how delicious the sensation was.

She was so aroused that her legs opened wider, falling apart, her head turning from side to side on the bed. That amazing ride to heaven was starting. She could feel it gathering within her, intensifying by the moment, at a speed which left her dizzy.

She couldn’t wait. It hit her abruptly, making her cry aloud, over and over. He kept going until almost the last spasm before climbing on top of her, settling himself between her legs. She felt a sharp stab of pain, and then he was inside her at long last.

Her eyes widened in astonishment at the strange, alien feeling. The pain was gone now, and it felt good. It felt like he was where he was always meant to be. As if they were two pieces of a puzzle that had finally been joined together.

Slowly, he started to move within her, his dark eyes pinning her to the bed. She moaned as he slid deeper into her, filling her, overtaking her body and her senses. The last twitches of her pleasure started to change and transfigure into something else. She wound her legs around him, her body urging him on, as if it knew instinctively what to do.

He was moving faster within her now, in a frenzy. She watched with wonder as the release of his pleasure gathered within him. Suddenly, it exploded. He gripped her tightly, moaning, as he poured himself into her. At the same moment, she reached another peak of ecstasy. Together they rode the wave until it subsided, and they fell away from each other, completely spent.

Jane blinked, almost unable to comprehend what had just happened. Her body felt complete in a way it never had before. She was hot and heavy and sticky with their love.

She had surrendered. She was exactly where she wanted to be.

He leaned over her, gazing down into her face.

“I am so happy,” he whispered, stroking her face tenderly. “To think I almost missed out on this. I know that it could never have been as beautiful as it was if I had made love to you without loving you, Jane. You have fixed me. And the strangest part of all is I never knew I was broken.”

Her heart somersaulted in her chest. She felt like she was basking in his love, his adoration, like a kitten in a warm patch of sunlight. She had never felt as loved as she did in this moment.

And she knew it had all been worth it. That love was always worth it. There were never any guarantees when a heart was opened and made vulnerable. It could end badly. It might not work. A heart could love and not be loved in return.

But she would accept the risks, over and over, if it brought her to this moment. To this life. A life that was theirs and theirs alone. And together, they would scale any mountain ahead of them because they had each other.

Yes, it was worth it. Every last piece of it.
