Chewing on her lip, the hunter shakes her head. “No, it’s not. Did she say anything?”

“She told me how to focus on my power. Honestly, I was terrified. She’s scary.” I lift a shoulder. “We didn’t have a friendly conversation.”

“She didn’t say when she’d be back?” Mateo leans forward and pins me with a look.

“No,” I say.

Part of me feels bad for lying to them, but the other part, which knows I could be in deep trouble if they found out I knew how to raise the dead, doesn’t care. None of the other shifters were there when it happened, and none of them have mentioned anything about my powers. I hope they all protect my secret, because I don’t want to find out what the Supernatural Force will do to me.

“I’m so stupid,” Demi mutters.

Mateo pats her knee. “It’s okay. You did what you thought was best.”

They share an intimate look, one loaded with secrets, regret, love, and pain. Something about the way the other two men inch closer has me wondering what their story is. Are they all lovers?

Evelyn and Blaze reappear with bags of food from a fried chicken fast food chain, disrupting the moment and my wandering mind. My mouth waters and Demi moans in appreciation.

“French fries?”

Evelyn nods at her. “Of course.”

“Oh thank god.” Demi gets up with the help of Mateo and waddles toward the dining hall. Her guys go with her, followed closely by Blaze and Evelyn.

“Come on, pups. Time to eat!”

“Evelyn,” Blaze grunts her name but she only snickers and jogs to catch up with Demi.

“They’re interesting…” I trail off, checking in with the guys and our pack. “Ready to eat?”

“Oh, hell yes!” Layla says, making a few people chuckle at her crazed response.

Deciding to live what might be the last few hours of my life to the fullest, I shake off any unease I feel because of our visitors and lead the pack to food.

Bok, bok!Joan squeals inside of my head.Fry that chicken.

This time I laugh out loud.Have I mentioned how much I love you?

Not nearly enough,Joan admits.

Dear Joan. I love you to pieces. Now let’s go eat.

Chapter 14

DRACO

The school is darker than usual tonight, but her bright red hair is like a beacon in the shadows, calling to me. She walks down the hall, trailing her finger along the wall, lost in her thoughts. She’s so absorbed in her conversation with Joan that she doesn’t sense me.

Good.

I’ve been waiting for the perfect moment. When she wouldn’t see me coming and couldn’t prepare herself to fight. Blaze and his crew are on the third floor, while our pack stuck together in the main library. I don’t know why Raven chose to wander down the west wing on the second floor, but it doesn’t matter.

She’s here. So innocent and sweet. The perfect prey.

Passing in front of a doorway, her finger leaves the dusty wall, but she keeps her arm stretched out. I surge forward, clap my hand over her mouth, and drag her inside the library.

My heart thumps, and I release a warning growl. “Don’t fight,” I say. She softens in my arms, and my dick immediately hardens.

Fuck. She’s perfect.
