Furrowing my brow, I extend my supernatural senses like an antenna, and sure enough, the pregnant lady is off the charts powerful. Those red eyes swing to meet mine, like she can sense my perusal, and her lip curls back. The vampire, Mateo, squeezes her tighter against his body, as though that will keep her in check.

I sincerely doubt any man could stop her if she were determined.

“She submitted, so there is no need for me to force her,” Blaze finally says.

“Good. Now tell your friends to calm down before things get bloody.”

Lightning flashes, punctuating Adler’s words with a violent exclamation point. Blaze nods and looks at Evelyn, shaking his head at her, then tosses a glance at the others. Mateo dips his head in acknowledgement, and Demi scowls at him.

“As for what has been happening to my shifters,” Blaze says, slowly turning to face us again. “I’m going to need a hell of a lot more detail from you on that, because last I knew Bad Moon Academy was helping changed shifters transition to their new life.” He looks around Adler and at the dilapidated mansion and frowns. “Clearly, that’s not the case.”

Carter clears his throat and steps forward. “Perhaps we can move to the study before the rain begins?”

Tipping my head up, I close my eyes and sigh. “Too late.” A fat raindrop hits my face. Then another. And another.

“I love the rain, but my boots don’t,” Evelyn says. “I’ll meet you all inside.”

“Fuck,” Blaze mutters, and I grudgingly open my eyes to see what’s going on. The vampire is nowhere in sight, and he’s glaring at the academy. “She never thinks.”

“Just figuring that out, are you?” Mateo drawls, smirking at his buddies.

The alpha flips him off and races after Evelyn with his supe speed.

Draco hums. “A vampire and an alpha walk into a haunted mansion.”

“Is there a joke there?” his brother asks with a strange smile on his lips.

“Perhaps,” Draco says with a shrug. “We should go inside before one of our shifters decides jumping them sounds like a good idea.”

Crap. He has a point.

“Let’s go.” I flit away from them with supe speed, but they’re only steps behind me. Unease bounces through the bond, ping-ponging between the six of us so fast it’s hard to tell who the emotion originated from. Maybe this is how it feels when we all feel the same thing. The hairs on my neck stand at attention when I feel the hunter shift behind me, waddling forward instead of flashing.

Maybe it’s not safe for the baby.

Either way, there’s danger ahead and behind us, and I don’t like it one bit.

Chapter 12

RAVEN

There are a lot of things I envisioned for my future. College. A cute little cottage. Maybe a husband if I found the right person. Being stuck in the middle of a fae and shifter sandwich while I wait for Blaze to finish processing the information I laid out for him is not one of those things I imagined. Not that I mind Adler and Carter smashing me between their bodies. Something about their nearness and touch helps calm me. Even Joan is snoring in my head. Almost like she forgot about the vampires and hunter all together.

Lot of good she is in high stress situations.

I can hear you,she mumbles in her sleep. If you would actually let me bite some ass, I’d be more inclined to stay awake.

How many times have I told you biting someone’s ass won’t solve our problems?

She chuffs, shifting positions.Maybe if you let me try it, we’d find out for sure that it would.

“Seems to me like Peter’s been a naughty boy.” Evelyn drums her fingers on her thigh, glancing around the dusty library.

Since the ward broke, things smell and feel dirtier than ever.

Blaze grunts. “He’s never liked me. He’s probably gunning for my position, though the elders would never give it to him. He’s had too many black marks on his record as alpha.”

“Black marks?” I ask, easing back on the couch and deeper into Carter’s side.
