“Draco,” I say. “Not yet.”
With a tinkling laugh which grates across my skin, Jinx tsks and sets her hand on her cocked hip. “You poor dears. You think there’s still hope?” She giggles and rolls her eyes. “They never learn,” she says to herself.
“What do you want?” Carter appears next to my bed, followed closely by Everett and Draco in his wolf form.
Squinting at me, then sliding her gaze to each man, her smile slowly begins to fall. “Not the warmest reception I’ve received, but no matter.” She waves her hand around, her ample cleavage jiggling with the motion. To their credit, none of the guys seem to notice or care about how she looks. All they see is an enemy.
“The point,” I say, snapping my fingers twice.
“Careful, Raven. I may have agreed to our deal, but the only person holding me to it is myself. All of this,” she jerks her thumb behind her to where the rest of the shifters float, “can go away in a matter of minutes if I want it to.”
I scowl at her but keep my mouth shut, knowing she’ll follow through with that threat if I push her too far.
“There you go,” she coos. “Now, the alpha is on his way. If my senses are right, he’ll be here by lunchtime tomorrow. You all need to be good little pets and do as you’re told. If you step out of line, I’ll kill them all.” She flicks her gaze over her shoulders. “Wake up!”
Jolting from their sleep, eyes widening when they realize they’re floating, and gasping when they see Jinx, everyone starts to beg to be let down. Well, everyone but Howard, Brayden, and Adler. They’re staring at Jinx with fire flaring in their eyes, a promise of revenge.
“Hear that, loves?” She shouts the question, silencing the shifter’s pleas. “Not one step out of line or you die, understood?” Her gaze drops to Bea, and she winks at her.
“We understand,” I say, stepping in front of where Bea is on the cot.
“Good.” With a snap, the shifters fall from their suspended state, dropping to the floor with hard thuds as Jinx disappears.
