The hairs on my neck stand at attention when a violent wave of power washes over me.

Our zeta is angry. Grab him.

What? I’m not—

Do it or he will kill Howard.

Fuck.

Reaching for Draco, I wrap my fingers around his forearm and step closer to him. “Draco, look at me.”

He growls and bares his teeth at Howard who doesn’t seem inclined to back down. The other zeta’s eyes flash yellow and fur ripples down his arms.

Damn it.

“Draco!” I shout, yanking on his arm and digging my nails into his skin. “Look at me.”

Snapping his head in my direction, he locks gazes with me. I meet his fury head on, swallowing every ounce of hate and rage filling those ice blue irises and nod. “You should leave,” I tell Howard.

The shifter hesitates, so I shoot him a glare and release some of my luna power into my words. “Leave, now.”

As if driven by an invisible force, Howard stumbles away. “Luna?” His voice is unsure.

Draco growls. “I will kill you if you say another word.”

With a frown, Howard eyes me before turning and storming out of the cafeteria. He kicks the trash can on his way out, but the farther away he gets, the more the wash of violence from Draco fades.

Bringing my attention back to Draco, I squint at him. “You tied him up?”

Shrugging, he flicks his hair out of his eyes with practiced ease. “I didn’t think he’d escape.”

My mouth opens to respond, but I’m not sure what to say to that. He’s so matter of fact about it. He didn’t think Howard would escape. “You were going to leave him there?” I finally ask.

“He’s not worthy. He may think he is, but no other zeta will touch you. Not unless they wish to die.”

Joan releases a pleased sigh. He’s so dreamy.

Because killing a shifter for touching me issoromantic?

He’s so possessive already. Imagine how things will change if we make him ours.

You sound all too excited about this, Joan,I say, wrinkling my brow.Besides, it kind of sounds like he’s claiming us.

She scoffs. In his dreams. We are the ones who will decide.

Draco’s eyes pin me in place, and he steps closer, breathing me in. “You liked when I threatened him, didn’t you?”

“No,” I say in a half lie. Part of me had preened at his psychotic declarations.

“I don’t believe you.” He tweaks my nose and sits back down. “Eat your food, Raven.”

Frowning at the use of my real name, I head to my side of the table, glancing around to see if we have an audience. To my surprise only two people remain in the cafeteria. Everett and Carter watch me sit before they rise from their seats and walk to our table.

“What was that?” Carter asks Draco.

“I’m sure you heard all of it. Howard knows his place now.”

Carter presses his lips together and glances at me, eyes softening. “Are you okay?”
