“Deal.”

“So, as I was saying, Raven’s status as a luna is sure to raise some eyebrows. Especially if the elders get wind of the news.”

“You don’t think the alpha told them?”

“He may not know. Lunas are able to hide their strength from other wolves. The only reason we know she’s a luna is because she felt threatened in the forest and her wolf wants to protect her here.”

“So we should keep her a secret.”

“I don’t know if that’s the best course of action,” he says. “But it may be the safest option. If the alpha finds out she is a luna… well, he’ll want her power all for his own.”

Drumming my fingers against the table, I search his face. “Sometimes the best weapons are the secret kind.” Not to mention the very thought of the alpha trying to take her makes me want to rip his head off.

You and me both,my wolf says.

Carter’s lips press into a thin line, and I can practically see the wheels inside his head spinning at super speed.

“What are you going to do with this information?” I ask.

Curiosity killed the cat, but more than one wolf has gone missing as of late. I wouldn’t be surprised if our beloved alpha was responsible for it. My alpha nature isn’t why I’m thinking something’s afoot either. There are too many coincidences.

The missing wolves. The constant looming darkness which shrouds the halls of Bad Moon Academy. Then there’s the matter of the wards.

Call it what he might, these are no normal pack wards.

Trouble’s brewing, and I know without a doubt that Raven’s going to be the reason it boils over.

Chapter 12

Raven

The next morning I jolt awake to my alarm clock blaring. Six in the morning is the devil’s hour—I don’t care what any of the horror movies say about three in the morning. Six is the worst. I hop in the shower and gasp through a cold-water rinse to wake myself. I have no idea what Combat Level I entails, but something tells me I’m going to hate it.

I’m a runner.

Ever heard of flight or fight? Yeah, I’m a flighty bitch. Well, I didn’t exactly run away from the wolf in the forest but that’s because he would have jumped me the second I turned my back on him. I’m not a complete idiot.

Once I’m dressed and throw my hair into a tight bun, I head down to the cafeteria with twenty minutes to spare, determined to drink the world’s biggest cup of cheap coffee.

We don’t need the bean brew.

I grin when my wolf pipes up for the first time this morning.Bean brew? All I heard waswe need bean brew.

She growls. You’re difficult when you’re cranky.

Uh, pot meet kettle?

Have you listened to yourself when you’re screaming about beef jerky?I ask, ducking under a cobweb and entering the empty dining hall. There’s no one in line, so I rush to the coffee station and pour a big mug full of delicious—well, that’s subjective, but a big mug full of bean brew, nonetheless.

With zero fucks to give, I chug the lukewarm liquid, not even caring when a dribble runs down the side of my mouth.

My wolf snorts.Real classy, Raven.

I know, right? Wait, what’s your name?

There’s a moment of silence and I think I’ve offended her by not already knowing it.

A wolf is given its name by the human it bonds with.
