“This is perfect.”
“When you’re ready to move on to stageI just want to run and play, let me know. I have more organic decorations I loaned to Tilly, but she’s probably about done with that phase and ready to move on to the next.”
I bring my eyebrows together. “How many phases are there?”
“Depending on the person, I’d say anywhere from five to ten.” She picks up the globe and spins it. “They really are pretty though, doom and gloom suits you.”
“I’m going to pretend that’s a compliment.”
She chuckles. “You’re funny. There’s more under the blanket.”
Pulling out the contents, I lay out the toothbrush holder, clothes hangers, sheer curtains, and a lamp shade. These are all black.
They’re perfect.
“Are you sure I can borrow them?”
“Pfft. Yes, please. I need more room for storage. I’m about to put up my Halloween decorations.”
“It’s July.”
She shrugs. “And August is basically October. Don’t judge me, I take my joy where I can get it.”
“Don’t tell me you listen to Christmas music in November?” I narrow my eyes and start loading the stuff back into the box.
“I will neither confirm nor deny such allegations.”
“As long as we can agree to never playAll I Want for Christmas, we can still be friends.”
She makes a gagging noise. “Please, my favorite song isBlue Christmasby Elvis Presley.”
“Oh, good choice. You’re not so bad, Morg.” I pause. “Hey, do you have a phone I can borrow?”
Her smile falls. “They don’t let us have phones or computers.”
“Oh,” I say with a frown. There goes that idea. Looks like I’m counting on Adler telling Aunt Lou I’m okay.
“Should we go decorate?” she asks with a wink.
I grin at her and nod. For the first time since coming here, I’m actually looking forward to something, and I plan to throw myself into the task to forget about everything. If only for a while.

I climbunder the blankets later that night. Morg helped me organize and we spent the day walking around the grounds. She introduced me to a few people when we came across them, but for the most part we kept to ourselves.
Draco and Carter failed to make an appearance. I’m not sure why, but their absence bothers me. Have they already decided I’m not worthy of their time?
Why do you care what those wolves think?
Hearing the smoky voice in my head so randomly startles a gasp out of me. I stare at the ceiling and try to think of what to say to her.
How are you feeling?I ask. The drug they gave me kept her at bay, but I feel her unfurling in my mind—almost like she’s stretching her limbs inside my head.
Annoyed and hungry.
I smile despite her annoyed tone.I ate a big dinner.
Clearly not enough. I’m still hungry.
