Fucking men.
One of her vampires cries out just before Alissa rips his head clear off his body. Nix whips her head around and takes in the damage, cursing before glancing back at Mateo.
Running for X, she hoists my friend up and slings her over her shoulder. “This isn’t over,” Nix says. Then she flashes from the club with X.
I chase after her, leaping off the stage and rushing from the building. I follow her scent and the trail I sense with my hunter radar until it abruptly disappears in a dark alley that smells like stale smoke.
“What the hell?” I shout into the night, slamming my fist into a brick wall.
Evelyn and Alissa skid to a stop. They glance around, looking as frustrated as I feel.
There’s no way a vampire disappears without a trace. Not unless they’re being helped by someone.
A witch?
“Where the fuck did she go?” Alissa asks.
Evelyn sniffs the air. “I know that smell. A portal demon is helping her.”
“Portal demon?” I rub my knuckles which are healing from punching the wall.
“A demon who can open doorways between the realms.” Evelyn frowns. “We need to get back to Mateo.”
“Do you think she went back?”
“I don’t know,” Evelyn says before flashing from the alley.
Following her, I push myself to go faster than I ever have in case my parents’ lives are in danger. They don’t have supernatural healing like Zander or Lacey.
My hunter radar tells me they’re still inside Twisted Helix, so I try to curb my anxiety when we rush through the entrance of the building and down the stairwell to subfloor one.
If I can feel them, it means they’re alive, right?
