“Easy, tiger. We didn’t take your parents.” Grayson’s pleading tone doesn’t work this time.
I’m sick of being a Blood Mafia pawn.
“Then why are they here?” I scream the question and throw the back of my head into Grayson’s face, earning me a shout of pain.
“Zander’s been looking for them. Maybe he found them,” Mateo says in a quiet voice. He pulls out his phone and glances at the screen. Then he scowls. “He never sent me a message back. I had asked him to continue searching for your parents before we left today.”
He did?
Well now I’m embarrassed.
“I’m sorry for accusing you… I—”
“You don’t have to explain. We’ve done worse before. It’s a natural assumption.” Colt stands in front of me and presses his palm to my cheek. “We’re not the enemy now.”
Biting my lip, I nod and drop my gaze. It’s hard to trust them. I’m expecting another betrayal even after my bond with Mateo and reconciling with Colt and Grayson.
To say trust is a personal issue of mine might be an understatement.
Colt steps aside. Mateo’s lips are pulled down and his knuckles are turning white where he grips the mobile device.
“Why do you look worried?”
Grayson releases me when I pull out of his arms and cross to Mateo. The lift opens to subfloor one, where Twisted Helix is.
Mateo swings his head in the direction of the club and inhales deeply. Then he releases a bone chilling snarl.
“Nix.” He disappears in the next second.
“Fuck,” Evelyn says, flashing from the elevator.
Glancing at Colt and Grayson, I cross my arms over my chest. “Does someone care to tell me what’s going on?”
Alissa grabs my arm. “If Mateo didn’t have your parents and they’re here now, it means Nix had them. This is bad,” she whispers.
I grind my teeth together.
Story of my life. Everything has been bad lately.
“Time to kill a vampire.” Using my supe speed, I rush after Mateo.
Nix is here. She has my parents.
She’s going to die.

Every lightin Twisted Helix is on. The stage lights, overhead lights, bar lights, and even the lights in the hallway leading to the bathroom are on. Evelyn and Mateo are standing in the middle of the dance floor, staring at the most gorgeous being I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
Her black hair is long and curly, her skin is pale like what you might expect when you hear the word vampire, and her eyes are light blue. Her lips are full and pulled back into a pretty smile which accentuates her sharp cheekbones.
She doesn’t hold my attention for long though, because tied up and gagged behind her are Zander, X, and my parents.
A woman’s body lies at her feet. Her black hair splays out behind her, revealing two bloody puncture wounds.
“Lacey,” Grayson whispers when he enters the club. “What did you do?” His words are filled with anger and he flashes toward her.
Mateo steps in his path and intercepts him, speaking quietly in his ear before Grayson jerks his head in understanding and stands down. His shoulders bunch with tension and he curls his fingers into fists.
