The bond pulses and I hear a whisper of a name.Sisco.
Looking over my shoulder, I grimace when I see Anthia’s hands shoved into Sisco’s chest. She broke his rib cage to get to the heart and her arms are covered in blood.
“Anthia is taking care of him. You’ll wake up soon,” I say, crawling closer. “It’s going to hurt.”
Her eyes cloud with confusion, then they clear and she smirks.Good for her,she whispers through the bond. Then she moans.
“Don’t try to talk,” Grayson says. “We’ll watch over you, tiger.”
This year fucking sucks. Her eyes flutter closed and she presses her lips together in a tight line.
I tell everyone what she thought at me.
Evelyn snorts. “Preach, sister.”
The pain of Demi’s death reverberates through the bond, making me grunt.
Colt glances at me. “You okay, boss?”
“Fine, her heart’s stopped beating.”
My captain turns to Demi and sighs. “Well at least you weren’t responsible for her death this time.”
* * *
Demi
Let’s talk about dying for a minute. It really sucks. Imagine the worst day of your life, multiply it by twenty, then add three. Coming back to life?
Now that’s about four times as bad as dying. Especially when it comes to feeling your skin knit together centimeter by centimeter before you can even open your eyes.
“She’s healing,” Colt says, pressing his finger near the edge of my neck wound.
“You can give her your blood.” Mateo’s voice sounds wonderful after the silence of death.
“I brought you a gift, tiger.” Grayson’s blood sprinkles against my lips.
Opening my mouth is a struggle but I manage to slip my tongue past them. Once I taste his blood, my jaw relaxes and I seal my lips to his wrist, drinking deeply and reveling in the immediate rush of energy.
I’ve accepted the fact that I’m a freak and I love drinking blood. Can you blame me, though? This stuff is like crack minus the terrible come down.
No, I’ve never done crack but I’ve seen plenty of people on it or coming off of it. It comes with going to college in such a large city. I’ve seen just about everything at the house parties Lexi and I used to go to.
I release Grayson’s wrist and sigh, wiping the remnants of the burgundy liquid from my face. A few minutes later I’ve healed enough to move around.
Evelyn hands me a tissue from where she sits next to me. I take it and dab the corners of my mouth.
Nothing like using your manners after drinking blood.
“Better?” Mateo asks. He drops his hand on my thigh and the bond sparks to life. Warmth seeps from his palm and rushes through me. Black bleeds into the brown of his irises.
“What was that?” I sit and roll my neck around. The slash from Sisco’s knife is fully healed now and thanks to Grayson’s blood, I feel like I’ve drunk twelve cups of coffee and can conquer the world.
“The bond repairing itself.” He sees the confusion written on my face and continues, “When one of us dies, so does the bond. When you revive the bond also resets.”
“What happens if I don’t come back?”
Colt shakes his head. “Let’s not worry about that right now, are you okay?”
