She doesn’t know anything about me meeting my birth mother.
Honestly, it freaking sucks not to be able to tell your best friend everything. I could use her kind words and it would be nice to tell someone who wasn’t there what happened.
“Demi, are you crying?” Lexi asks, sounding more awake than she was moments ago. “Is it your parents? Did you find them? Are they… are they okay?”
I didn’t realize I’d started crying, so I wipe my tears away with the back of my hand and sniff. “No, I haven’t found my parents.” The words come out broken and husky from trying to hold back a sob.
“I’m sure they’re fine, D.”
I nod even though she can’t see me. “Have you heard anything from your mom?”
“No,” Lexi says, blowing out a breath. “My mom was pretty upset yours ghosted their coffee date the other day.”
“Okay,” I say, gaining control of myself and shoving my tears down.
There’s no time to cry, I need to find my parents. I need to find Alissa and Lacey.
“They probably found a good deal on a cruise or something and decided to jump at the opportunity. Seriously, Demi, I wouldn’t worry too much. You know how they are.”
“Yeah.” I can’t tell her that my super hunter radar can’t find them and that there’s a psycho vampire I pissed off and he’s probably torturing them, so I say, “Thanks, Lexi. How are you? Classes going okay?”
“Oh God, don’t get me started.” She groans and tells me all about her law school drama and almost failing her last exam. I half-listen, asking questions when I know something is important to her, but my heart isn’t in it.
With everything that’s happened, college issues sound like a dream.
