No.

She can’t be dead.

“He cut her heart out.”

Maria’s hand lands on my shoulder and I shove it away.

“Why did he cut her heart out?” I stare into her eyes.

They mist with unshed tears and she shakes her head. “I don’t know. He wanted to draw you away from the group. He’s a ruthless asshole.”

I glare at Daniel’s body. “I’ll kill him again when he wakes up.”

Maria sighs. “The Guild will handle Daniel and Gerry.”

“You should kill them.”

Maria scowls at Mateo, not liking his advice. “The Guild will handle them. Their crimes will likely result in death, but I am not going to make the decision myself. We will handle it with our rules.”

Mack appears, carrying heavy duty chains and cuffs. “Hey, Demi girl.”

Clenching my teeth together, I look away from Daniel and nod at Mack. “Hey Mack.”

I don’t like Maria’s answer. Bureaucracy is the death of justice.

“Where’s Blaze?” Mateo asks. “And the child?”

“They’re in the gymnasium,” I say, scrubbing my hands over my face and pushing the loose strands of hair toward my ponytail.

We can get the wolves and be on our way.
