I cross my arms and lean against the front of the car, shooting my gaze around our group. They all nod in agreement, X and Tyra included.

“Are you sure?” I whisper the question to them. I’ve asked at least seven times, but they deserve another chance to back out. They’re going in without supe powers.

X yanks her blonde hair into a tight ballerina bun. “Demi, we know how they fight. Not everyone in there has awakened. We’ll be smart.”

Tyra doesn’t look so sure about the plan, but when I tip my head to the side she nods. “I want to help. We’ll stick to the younger hunters and make sure they don’t cause any problems.”

“All right.” I swing my gaze back to Mateo.

He’s been watching me the entire exchange. “Are our people ready?”

I narrow my eyes at his intentional deference. “All good, boss.”

His lips twitch at the name and I scowl, only serving to make a full smile bloom across his gorgeous undead face.

Bastard.

“On your lead, Demi.”

“Now you’re just sucking up,” I say, blowing out a frustrated breath.

Some of the vampires snicker. They all know Mateo’s in the doghouse and not a single one of them is surprised by it.

Time to focus.

“Group one, with me.”
