Chapter Twenty-Three

A MonthLater

Demi

“We’ll be there in twenty minutes, I swear.”

Mom sighs. “I made his favorite pie, Demi. If you’re even a minute late I’ll whoop your ass.”

Grayson shoots me a knowing smile as I nod.

“Uh huh, sure you will.”

“The door will be open when you get here.”

“See you soon, bye.” I hang up the phone and set it in the cup holder. “Are you sure you want to go? She’s going to be like this all night.”

He switches lanes then grabs my hand. “You think I can’t handle her?”

I shake my head. “I’m afraid she’ll say something embarrassing.”

“Aw, tiger, you love me, don’t you?”

Growling at him, I yank my hand away. “Shut up.”

He pouts and navigates around another slow car.

“Don’t make that face,” I say, making a whining noise. “You know I love you too, even if you are obnoxious.”

Grayson gasps and beams at me. “Iknewit.”

“Yeah, yeah, eyes on the road.” I wave my hand toward the busy street, distracting him from tormenting me.

He takes too much pleasure in making me admit I love him. Maybe it’s because I still owe him the bond. Between getting my parents settled and helping things settle at home after Nix’s attack, we’ve been too busy to finish it.

“Let’s do it tonight.”

Grayson swerves slightly, then corrects the car and waggles his eyebrows at me. “I love it when you talk dirty to me.”

“I’m serious, Grayson. Tonight we finish the bond.” I look out of my window, chewing on my bottom lip.

He wants to finish it, right?

Navigating off the freeway, he moves to the right lane so we can turn into my parents’ neighborhood. The car idles at the stoplight.

“Demi.”

I slowly bring my eyes to meet his. “Yeah?”

“I want to suck your blood.”

“Grayson.” I burst into laughter. “I’m being serious.”

He wrinkles his nose at me. “So am I. Tonight’s the night.”

Resting my head against the back of the seat, I roll my eyes at him. “You’re such a dork.”

The light turns green and he starts driving again. “Keep talking to me like that and see what happens, tiger.”
