She’s pissed.

Whatever.

She’s too good for the wolf.

“Focus, please.” Demi’s trying to be patient but she lets some of her irritation bleed into her voice.

Evelyn focuses on her and her eyes soften when she sees the lines wrinkling Demi’s forehead.

“Of course, this is about X.”

With a sigh of relief, Demi faces Blaze again.

“What’s the news? Can he get us in?”

Blaze chances a glance at Evelyn, and I let it slide despite wanting to bash his head into the cement. I don’t want to make Demi more upset than I already have.

“He can.” Blaze shoves his hands into his pockets. The gesture is more casual than nervous. “What do you know about the Underworld?”

“Not much,” she confesses.

I know a bit, but I’ve never been there so all of my knowledge is second-hand.

“The Underworld is dangerous for supes. We’re nearly invincible on Earth. There are things, creatures and plants alike in the Underworld that can be deadly to us.”

Demi tips her head to the side, letting her long ponytail fall over her shoulder.

I have the sudden urge to wrap it around my hand and take her from behind. She flits her gaze to me, her eyes dilating and brow furrowed. The bond hides nothing. She’s probably wondering why I’m suddenly turned on. Her delectable vanilla and cinnamon scent swirls around me.

There’s no holding back the smug smirk slipping across my lips. She shakes her head at me, like she’s at a loss for what to say before turning back to the wolf.

He inhales but doesn’t react.

Good thing too. I’d hate to kill him when we still need his help.

“So we need to be careful. Noted.”

Blaze frowns at Demi. “I don’t think you understand. You risk losing your life, or theirs.” He gestures to me, Evelyn, Grayson, and Alissa who just joined us. “Is going after Nix worth the price?”

She doesn’t immediately answer. Her worry reaches for me through the bond, pulling me into her troubled thoughts.

“It’s worth the risk,” Alissa says.

“Agreed.” Grayson nods.

“I can’t very well let the bitch win, now can I?” Evelyn asks, looking at her nails like she’s bored.

She’s fooling exactly no one.

“We have to try,” Demi says, her voice soft. “She’d do it for me.”

Blaze glances at Evelyn again. This time I hiss at him and snap my teeth together in warning. Demi is suddenly there, pressing her back into my front as though that will stop me.

She’s right.

I immediately shut up. Blaze’s jaw ticks but he doesn’t look at Evelyn again.

“No one ever lets me have any fun.” She huffs and struts away. “Let me know when we’re ready to go.”
