Epilogue

Two MonthsLater

“Now close your eyes and ommmmmm.”Evelyn carries the word, waiting for me, Zander, X, and Alissa to join in.

It’s a little chilly up here, seeing as it’s December, but my supe powers keep me from freezing my ass off.

Since Nicole suggested I control the rage and not let it control me, I’ve taken up meditating with Evelyn to learn how to center myself. So far, it’s worked. I’m not as angry.

Maybe that’s because things have finally settled, my bonds are formed, and everyone is safe. For once, things with the Blood Mafia are going well.

All things considered, everyone is learning to be happy again. X has a ways to go, she’s still processing the loss of Tyra and living her life without her partner. Luckily, she has a solid foundation of friends and Mateo’s been having her help on a few odd jobs.

Nothing too dangerous since she hasn’t awakened, but she’s contributing and has a purpose.

The door to the roof opens and the invisible string connecting me to Mateo twangs. When he stops behind me and I shiver, he releases a dark chuckle.

Bastard.

Evelyn sighs and I open my eyes to see everyone staring at the vampire expectantly.

“What do you want, Brother? You’re interrupting the Zen zone.”

“Zen zone?” he asks.

“I said what I said, Mateo.” Evelyn crosses her arms. “What is it? You have that look on your face.”

“The designer and crew are here. I need help.” The bewildered look he’s wearing is too much. I snort and shake my head.

“Who knew the big bad Mateo would be afraid of Christmas?”

X and Zander snicker.

Standing up, I turn to face him and place my hands on my hips. “You owe me a Zen session.”

His eyes narrow. He wants to say no, but he’s working on meeting me halfway, so he nods his head. “All right. We should go, the woman in charge is insane.”

Someone’s dramatic. Then again, the human I commissioned to get Twisted Helix ready for its very first Christmas party is a bit of a handful, what with her task lists and Bluetooth earpiece.

Even with my supe hearing, it’s hard to tell who she’s talking to sometimes.

“Bye guys, see you tonight.” I link my arm in Mateo’s and drag him toward the elevator. As much as he hates meditating, something tells me he’d rather stay up here than go down and talk with the designer again.

When the doors close and the mechanics kick on, I shove him against the wall and climb him like a tree. He rests his hands under my thighs and smirks when my lips crash into his. I growl and the smile widens. I nip his lower lip, and he grunts, dropping his smile and kissing me like he means it.

“Where did that vampire go? I hope he knows he’s paying me by the hour—” The designer is in the middle of a rant when the doors whoosh open, revealing Mateo and me in a very compromising position.

Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.

I kiss him one more time before slowly extracting myself from his hold. His eyes are black when I meet his gaze and the right corner of my mouth lifts.

“Love you too, grumpy butt.”

He shakes his head, adjusts his pants because that erection is massive, and glares at the human.

I pat his chest. “I’ll handle it. You go do what you do best.”

“Be the boss?”
