Holding her hands up, she leans back in her chair and tips her head to the side. “I mean, damn. Three boyfriends? Kevin would shit his pants.”
I snort. “Gross. Kevin can eat a dick.”
“Where is Kevin nowadays?” Mateo asks with a slight growl.
The waitress drops our drinks off and gives Mateo a curious look. “I’ll be back in a few to take your orders.” She scurries away, probably to tell the other staff about the crazy man at table six.
“Don’t answer that,” I say to Lexi. I shake my head at Mateo. “You can’t kill him.”
“Who’s going to stop me?” He lifts his chin and gives me a challenging look.
He’s cruising for a bruising, and maybe some fun bedroom time. I shouldn’t enjoy the slightly crazed look in his eyes, but I do.
I really fucking do.
Yes, my name is Demi and I need to check myself into the psych ward, please.
Lexi slaps her hand over her heart. “Oh my god, he’s perfect.”
I roll my eyes. “You’re going to give him an even bigger head than he already has, Lex.”
“She likes my head,” Mateo quips, sipping his blood cocktail. The bond with him sparks with desire and I press my thighs together.
My friend’s eyes linger on the drink for a second, and I chew on my lower lip. Is she going to realize it’s blood?
Lacey snaps her fingers, and Lexi glances at her, scrunching her face in confusion. “Sorry, what did you say? I totally spaced for a second.”
“I was asking how you liked law school.” Lacey gives me an apologetic smile.
I shrug. The cocktails were an oversight, I was too worried about concealing the men I didn’t even consider their drink of choice might make her suspicious. Lacey has it covered now though.
“Ugh, don’t get me started. I don’t know if I still have a soul, if I’m being honest. I feel like all I do is study.” Lexi pouts. “I can’t wait to graduate, it’ll be so amazing, right Demi?”
I freeze for a second. I haven’t been going to class. I’m probably failing all of them and to be frank, I haven’t had time to think about finishing my degree. I don’t have too many classes left in my graduate degree.
What’s the point of finishing school? I mean, what am I going to do? Getting a job at the supe juvenile ward is probably out of the cards now. No supe child is going to open up to a hunter.
“Uh, yeah, I can’t wait.”
The waitress reappears with a pen and pad. “Are you ready to order?”
“I was so hungry I already picked out what I wanted. Are you guys ready?”
I smile at Lexi’s question. “Yeah, we’re ready.”
After dinner,we sit and talk until we push the limit on Lacey’s spell. Mateo comes to the rescue and makes an excuse about having to get back for a work call.
“Uh huh, a work call.” Lexi winks at me. “How long do those calls last?”
“Oh my god, shut up.” My cheeks flame as everyone laughs at my expense. “You all suck.”
Lexi sticks her tongue out. “Love you too, Demi.”
“Yeah, yeah. I love you too.”
She pushes her chair back and stands. “Can we do this again? Like really soon?”
Giving Lacey a discreet look, I grin when she nods. “Yeah, we can do this again.”
Thank fuck for that. I miss my best friend.
My future plans may be uncertain, but knowing I can have her and my parents in my life makes everything better.
