Raze rubbed my lower back. “It’s straightforward. The woman pushes and the baby comesout.”
I slapped his hand away, as it irritated me. Right now, I felt as if I were about to be thrown into quicksand. “Then why don’t you go in there? Oh, my goddess.” I paced in a small circle. “I can’t do this. Last time I saw someone with a broken leg with their bone broken through their skin, Ifainted.”
Talin grabbed my arms and forced me to face him. “Just breathe. Go in and inspect the situation. Ask the midwife if it’s a breech birth. If so, let no one help the mother push the baby out as it could kill them both. But once the legs are out, then they can pull the babyout.”
“What? How in the world do youknow?”
“Once I got stuck in a house during a snowstorm with a mother and three kids, and the wife was in labor. So guess who delivered the baby, per herinstructions?”
“Oh, shit. Why don’t you do it then?” I crossed my arms. This was insane and no way in this universe would I be delivering a shifterbaby.
Raze’s laugh burst out. “Yeah, the prince of White Peak, assisting in the labor of his cousin’s mistress. He’d be a joke—plus, he wouldn’t be allowed in. Men aren’t permitted to attendbirths.”
“That’s ridiculous.” I dropped my hands and buzzed with the dread biting in my flesh. “I swear, if I ever have a baby, the father will be there the entire time, suffering withme.”
Raze smirked. “I can see you demanding that. But I agree with Talin here. It would be considered an insult for us to turn down the plea for help, and it could rouse suspicion if you don’t as Talin’scaretaker.”
“Are you ready?” Len’s voice came from over by thedoorway.
Talin smiled and gave me a slight nod. He lowered himself to my level and whispered, “This might help us convince the duke to remove the curse. Please, Bee. Do this forme.”
Because my life hadn’t become bizarre enough. My legs had hardened to stone, and my breaths grew ragged. I’d rather face a bear shifter in attack mode over helping someone givebirth.
“She’ll do it.” Talin forced me to turn around and nudged me towardLen.
