This one makes me laugh, because I can see my mom calling and chewing out poor Nate about if I’m in jail or not. I know if I was there, my mom would have left my ass in there overnight, but she’d have been there with bail money in the morning.

A few more messages from my mom, including one of her trying to bribe me to call her, one telling me she called a poor, harassed Rich for details of where I was and upon finding out I was with Brynn, and then she sent me one reminding me she wanted a daughter-in-law before grandbabies.

The voice messages she left were pretty much along the same lines, just with some yelling mixed in.

I take a deep breath and ask one of the kitchen guys to finish up the breakfast potatoes for me, while I call her. I step into the kitchen office and call her back.

“Boy, you better be lying on your deathbed in some hospital room right now.” Mom says, answering her phone.

“I’m sorry. I turned my phone on silent for my date, just like you taught me, too. When we got back to The Inn, we saw the mayor, and it all happened so fast. Then, we spent over an hour talking to the police, and Brynn was drained, so I took her to her room, and we fell asleep.” I tell her.

“Tell me you at least used protection,” Mom says, calling me out on the info I left out.

“Yes, Mom.” I sigh.

“Good. Now, you okay?” She asks in a more calmly voice.

“Yeah, Lin was the one he put his hands on. I walked in and got to the mayor right before Kade did, so I’m the one who stopped him. Nate assures me there won’t be a way for him to come after me, because I was protecting Lin. Either way, I’d do it again.” I tell her.

“Damn right you would. You don’t let any guy put his hands on a woman, especially those girls.” She says in a stern voice.

“I know, Mom,” I tell her.

“Well, you need to make it a point to call me, if you aren’t going to be home. So, I at least know you’re safe.” She says.

I think of holding Brynn in my arms, like I did last night.

“Mom, I think it’s safe to assume I won’t be home at night and just be surprised, when I am, because I’m going to be attached to Brynn’s hip for as long as she lets me,” I tell her.

Mom grunts, but I know she’s smiling. The guy in the kitchen gives me a sign the food is ready.

“I’m going to let you go, so I can go feed my girl. I love you Mom, and I’m sorry for worrying you.” I tell her.

“Love you, too. I’m glad you’re safe and happy.”

We hang up, and I grab a tray to take the food to Brynn’s room. The whole time I’m thinking of how great it is to have someone worry about me. I’m not thrilled to be living back home with my mom, but it’s a nice change from the cold, lonely apartment I had in New York. I could go days without talking to someone on my days off, and here, I can barely go an hour. It’s a night and day difference, but I love life on The Island so much more now, cuddling my pillow. The thought makes me smile that even in her sleep she’s reaching for me.

I set the tray down on the nightstand and sit on the edge of the bed. Pushing some hair from her face, I start trying to wake her up slowly.

“Time to get up, Firefly,” I say in a soft voice.

My girl is not a morning person, so waking her, as gently as possible, is for the best.

When her eyes flutter open and land on me, my whole body warms. Just her look has me pinned in place, but when she smiles, my heart races.

She rolls over onto her back and stretches with her hands above her head. Her breasts are on full display, and I wonder if she’s sore between her thighs.

My hand seems to have a mind of its own, as it reaches out and gives one of her firm globes a squeeze and rub my thumb across the stiff peak. She moans and arches her back, pushing her chest further into my hand.

My hand trails down her stomach and finds her core wet and her clit swollen.

“Were you dreaming of me?” I ask, as I play with her clit.

“Yes,” she says a bit breathlessly.

“What was I doing in this dream?” I ask.

“The day I found you in the shower.” She groans.
