“Anything for her,” I tell him, and we say our goodbyes.
“Okay, the dress is a go. Do you want a veil, or one of the flower crowns, like your mom used?” I ask Lin.
“Flower crown.” She says.
“Okay, shoes?” I ask.
“Barefoot on the beach and flats at the reception.”
“God, you’re easy.” I chuckle.
“What does she need for under the dress?” I ask Gigi.
We walk out an hour later, after Lin has been sized, and they order the dress. When the dress is ready to be picked up, Kade’s mom will be in town, so the timing is perfect. We head out to lunch and to look at wedding decorations, like I promised Kade I would. It’s one of the best days I can remember the two of us having in a long time.
Chapter 10
Jasper
Lin and Brynn have been out all day. They went wedding dress shopping for Lin, and when Brynn came back, she had a huge smile on her face. God, that smile could get me to do anything in the world. If she only knew the power she had with it, but I’m thankful that right now, she has no idea.
Needing some fresh air, I decide to take a walk along the beach, as the sun was setting. I’m going to figure out how to make things right. Although, I know it won’t be easy.
Like the universe is throwing it in my face again, I find Lin, sitting on the back porch of The Sunrise Inn, as I make my way up there.
“Hey,” she says, when I reach the steps.
Kade comes out and sits beside Lin on the couch, and I take the chair next to them.
“I’m sorry,” I say.
“For?” Lin asks.
“For everything. For blaming you for Brynn and me breaking up, for the way I treated you that night at Samuel’s, when you two came in for dinner, for not being here, when your parents died, and for being a shitty friend. All of it.” I say.
When I remember that night at Samuel’s, I cringe. It was Lin and Kade’s first date. Since they were fake dating at the time, they made it very public, and I heard they were at my restaurant and came out guns blazing. Surprisingly, the next day no one was talking about my outburst, just about Lin and Kade. Thank God for small miracles.
She still hasn’t said anything, so I keep talking. “When I left for New York, I really thought she’d follow me within a few weeks. Then, her dad died, and she still didn’t come. I kept waiting, and the longer she didn’t come, the madder I got.”
“You know, she was waiting on you, too. Kept thinking you’d show up and apologize. Even after the funeral, she thought you’d realize she couldn’t leave, and you’d show up. That you two would get to live out this dream you’re now forcing on her by sabotaging every interview she tries to do.” Lin says in a very calm and steady voice.
“None of them are good enough,” I mumble.
Kade chuckles but stays silent. He wraps his arm around Lin’s shoulder, and she rests her head there with her golden, blonde hair, falling down between them.
“So, what’s your plan?” She asks.
“My plan?”
“Well, I’m guessing you want me to help you win her back, which is why, you’re here. I’m on board, but you have to have a plan. You hurt her by going on that date the other night. More than she wants to admit. As for her date, I set that up weeks ago, before I knew what was going on with you two. It was an attempt to get the heat off me, before Kade and I went public.” She says.
Somehow, that makes me feel a bit better that the date was a setup.
“Also, the date went bad. She was bored out of her mind.” Lin smiles.
“Good.” I nod.
That explains why she was so hungry that night. Most people, when they get bored, will eat to fill the time. Not Brynn. She can’t eat, when she’s bored, and it’s like her whole body shuts down. I don’t know why I bought her excuses so easily. I guess, I was just too mad to see otherwise.
