God, thank you for working so fast! This sign couldn’t be any clearer, and I promise to fix our relationship.

I had no idea God, fate, karma, or whatever you want to call it could work so quickly. But I thought it, and here it is.

“What do you need?” I ask.

“Listen, Kade called, and he’s coming to make things right. He wants to surprise Lin with dinner on the beach tomorrow night. I got the setup taken care of, but would you be willing to cook their meal and make it special? Something that isn’t on our menu?” She asks.

“Of course. I’ll make her anything she wants.” I tell her.

“Perfect, I’ll text you the details. Oh, and this is a secret, so not a word to anyone.” She says and hangs up.

Well, it’s a step with her, though a small one. But this is the perfect opening I needed to start talking to Brynn.

A few minutes later, a text comes in with the food to make, time, and other details for tomorrow night.

Chapter 9

Brynn

My best friend is getting married. Kade came in with a grand gesture straight from a movie, which is perfect with him being a movie star and all. He surprised her with the big apology and declaration of love. He followed that up with a candlelit dinner on the beach, where he proposed.

Of course, she said yes. They want to have a small wedding, since both our parents are gone, and Kade is an only child. They plan to get married after this season. Then, in the off season, they are going to renovate her parents’ house, which she currently rents out, as a vacation rental in season. Then, they’ll live there.

She won’t be next door anymore, but I couldn’t be happier for her. Someday, when I find my prince charming, I’ll renovate my parents’ house, and we will be neighbors again. Until then, I have a place to go to get away from The Inn.

That leads up to today. Kade proposed four days ago, and we are already on the mainland wedding dress shopping. This is something Lin says she wants to get picked out, before the season is kicked into high gear, so she can schedule in dress fittings with Martha on The Island.

Martha is Joe’s wife, and they own the drugstore. He runs it, and she helps as needed, but her main job is a seamstress, and she’s so excited to do Lin’s wedding dress.

“Martha said we can do all the fittings at The Inn and even after dinnertime, so work won’t be an issue,” Lin says, as we pull into this bridal store Martha recommended.

“Okay, we are early to this appointment.” Lin unhooks her seatbelt and turns in her seat to face me. “What’s bugging you? I can see it, so let’s talk and get it out, before we get swallowed up by tulle.”

The plus, or maybe, the downside of having a best friend is they can read you like an open book.

“I don’t understand why Jasper went on that date with a tourist. He used to have a rule about not dating them.” I sigh.

“That’s not it.” She says. She knows the problem, but she just wants me to say it.

“Why was he on a date at all?” I say.

“Well, you went on a date.” She says.

“That you set me up on.” I retort back.

“Exactly.” She smiles, like a cat that just caught a mouse.

“What?” I say.

Then, she laughs.

“Didn’t you say Jasper followed you to the lobby, and then introduced himself to your date?” She asks.

“Yes.”

“He was jealous. So, he thought ‘oh, if she can date, I can date’ and I bet that girl just happened to ask at the right time, and he said yes. Did you know Dale stopped him from coming after you not long after you came to my room that night?” She says.

“What? Why didn’t you tell me?” I ask.
