With a sigh, Dominic cradled Maddy in his arms. “Are you happy about the baby?” he asked.

“Yes, but . . .”

“But what?”

“Well, are baby vampires like regular babies?”

“I guess so.”

“I won’t have to give him blood instead of milk, will I?”

“No,” he said, stifling a grin. “It’s like I told you, our young are human until puberty.”

“And all our children will be boys,” she murmured.

He heard the disappointment in her voice. Not that he could blame her. Like most women, she probably wanted a daughter. “Is that a game changer?”

“No,” she said slowly. “There’s no guarantee that I’d have a daughter, no matter who I married.”

Giving her shoulders a squeeze, Dominic brushed a kiss across her cheek. “If you want a little girl, we can always adopt one.”

“You’d do that?”

“You must know I’d do anything for you.”

With a sigh, she snuggled against him. A baby. She was going to have a baby. “Oh! What am I going to tell my parents?”

“The truth?”

“That my husband is a vampire and I’m carrying his baby?”

“We can get married tomorrow and then pretend the baby came a little early.”

“What about the vampire thing? Will my mom and dad be able to tell what you are?”

“You couldn’t. Neither will they. Will your parents be upset if they miss the wedding?”

“Better upset than disappointed in me.” Maddy shook her head. “I was going to be the ‘good’ daughter and not get pregnant out of wedlock like my sister. I’ll never hear the end of it from Fran.”

“If your parents say anything, you can tell them we were so much in love, we just couldn’t wait a minute longer.”

“It’s sort of the truth,” Maddy said with a grin. “I couldn’t wait any longer.”

“It’s settled, then. I’ll have Ava make the arrangements. The two of you can conjure a wedding gown. And tomorrow, you’ll be Mrs. Dominic Falconer.”

Maddy smiled. And then she frowned. “What about your parents?”

“If I know Lily, they’re already on their way.”

Maddy shivered at the thought of meeting his mother and father. One was a powerful vampire, the other a powerful witch. What if they didn’t like her? What if they disapproved of their son’s marriage? What if they had someone else in mind for him?

“Stop worrying, love,” Dominic said. “They’ll be as crazy about you as I am.”

“I knew we never should have sent Ava to the States with Dominic,” Callie said as she dropped her cell phone on the coffee table. “Some chaperone she turned out to be.”

Quill grinned. “Darlin’, all the chaperones in the world wouldn’t have done any good. Dominic’s a young, healthy male.”
