“Any time.”

“Half an hour?”

“Perfect.”

“See you then.”

Maddy found herself grinning from ear to ear as she dropped her phone on her freshly made bed and hurried into the bathroom to shower.

Dominic arrived half an hour later, as promised. Dressed in a pair of black slacks and a long-sleeved, dark gray shirt over a white tee, he looked like he had just stepped out of the pages of a men’s fashion magazine.

He whistled when he saw her. “Damn, girl, you look good enough to eat.” She wore a pair of jeans and a sweater that outlined every delectable curve.

She flushed under his admiring gaze.

“What shall we do tonight?” he asked.

“The latest Bond flick is playing at that new drive-in theater.” She frowned. “What are you laughing at?”

“My great-grandmother used to call them passion pits. But I’m game if you are.”

“Dominic!”

“Hey, she said it, not me.”

“I just want to see the movie,” she said primly. “That’s all. No passion or pits involved.”

“Yes, ma’am. I’ll keep both hands in my pockets and my eyes on the screen.”

“Maybe not both hands,” she said, stifling a grin. “Is it okay if we pick up something to eat on the way to the drive-in? I haven’t had dinner.”

They stopped at a fast-food place on the way to the theater. As they stepped in line to order, it occurred to Dominic that he’d eaten more mortal food in the last few days than he had in the last few months. Not that he was complaining; not when he had Maddy to keep him company.

She asked for a cheeseburger, fries, and a strawberry shake. He ordered a steak sandwich, rare, and a cup of coffee.

They found a table by a window.

“So, what kind of movies do you like?” she asked as they waited for their order.

“Pretty much anything, except for slasher flicks.”

“What’s the matter?” she teased. “Are you squeamish? Don’t you like all that blood?”

He was tempted to ask if she was offering, but he doubted she would see the humor in it. “Do you?”

“Not really. I saw one Halloween movie and that pretty much put me off the genre for life. So, what do you like?”

“Comedies. Adventure. Superheroes. You know, the usual.”

“Favorite comedy?”

“You can’t beat Galaxy Quest or Young Frankenstein for laughs. Yours?”

“Mine’s an old one, too. I really love The Devil Wears Prada. I watch it every time it’s on cable. That and The Holiday. I watch that one a lot, too. Have you seen it?”

“Sure. Cameron Diaz,” he said with a wink. “She’s hot.”
