Cackling came from the other side of the island, far away from Luci and me as we stared at Loki in disbelief.
“That was so awesome! Uriel, your eyes got so big!” Loki snorted as he fell to the floor. Luci’s angry face came back, but I pulled him back by his shoulders. His posture relaxed and turned back to me.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered, putting his nose into my neck. “I didn’t mean for you to…”
I giggled, laughing at how ridiculous he sounded. He saw my lady parts; it was my turn to see his… god parts.
“It's okay, I just wasn’t ready,” I blushed, holding my stuffy up to my face. “Loki was being naughty, not your fault.”
Loki finally stood up, now the kitchen held Nora and, I’m guessing, her mate. His skin was red, and he had small horns on his head, very different from the rest of the demons I’ve seen. Nora mentioned he was different, that he was like, Hades’ right-hand demon.
“What are you doing, child?” Nora fussed as she walked in. Luci was trying to hide his god part by pushing it down, and then he shoved my legs together with his other hand.
Oh right, no panties.
“I was hungry,” I guiltily said. “I didn’t get dessert.” Nora's heavy sigh left her lips as she went to a cupboard on the other side of the kitchen.
That would have taken me ages to get over there.
“I’m sorry. Your mother said you couldn’t sleep without dessert, and I totally forgot. Here are some homemade cowboy cookies for you.”
I squealed, taking three, four, then five before Luci grabbed my hand.
“I think three will do, you don’t need to get a tummy ache.” He took several cookies back and returned them to the bag.
I pouted—I wanted more. I didn’t eat dinner.
“Please, one more.” I held up my finger in protest.
“Aw, give her the cookie,” the demon chided as he held onto Nora. “She came all this way from her room.”
Nora shook her head, patting his hand. “When we have children, Loukas, you shouldn’t give in so easily.”
The demon, now dubbed Loukas, rubbed his nose on Nora’s neck. “But she looks so helpless with that pouty lip,” Loukas whined for me.
“Please, Luci,” I pleaded.
Giving me a narrowed look, he gave me one more.
Ha! Now I can always negotiate!
Loki must have known what I was thinking because he snickered behind Luci, who grabbed him by the neck.
“Gotcha,” he laughed, pushing him to the floor.
“Hey!” Loki replied, rubbing his neck. “Uriel, did you see what he did to me?”
I shook my head putting another cookie in my mouth. “No,” I said honestly. Because I didn’tseehim get thrown to the floor. I just heard the loud smacking noise his tooshie made.
Chapter 29
Lucifer
Aftercoaxingmymateback to bed, she threw her stuffed animal on the other side of the mattress. Her body curled up next to me, nuzzling into my neck. For a minute, I was worried I would have to fight a damn stuffed animal for the affection of my mate.
The whole way back to bed, she said she just went to get him because he was ‘scared of thunderstorms.’ I shook my head at that.
How can she be so intelligent one moment and so childish the next?
