“I might.”

“Don’t.”

“You still think you can make this decision for me, don’t you?” a dark chuckle escaped her lips.

“No. I’m asking you not to go. The decision is all yours. But you’re pretty drunk, so I’m not letting you go upstairs tonight. You can fuck him tomorrow when you’re sober.”

“Why did you give methatnecklace?” her eyes demanded an explanation.

“On Christmas people usually give each other presents. I’m still waiting for a present from you, by the way. It was pretty rude you didn’t get me anything.”

“You, asshole,” she tried to round me, but I stood in her way.

“Don’t even think about it. I promised Hannah I won’t leave you alone. You’re stuck with me.”

“Fine, you can watch then.”

I tilted my head back and laughed.

“I’m starting to think you really like the idea of being watched. I wonder why you closed your curtains on me for so long,” I rubbed her cheek with my thumb. “I would have watched you every night, you know. You’re so beautiful.”

“Stop it,” she hissed, pushed me away, and strolled towards Dylan. She took his hand and dragged him to the dance floor. She was bumping into people, but she didn’t care.

I knew she wouldn’t be doing this if she was sober. But she was angry, confused, and, unfortunately, wasted. And I was the reason for all three. My punishment consisted of me watching her rub herself in Dylan while they danced.

It wasn’t my first choice of entertainment, but I decided to give her the chance to get back at me. I could see how confused she was, and I knew she needed to feel in control, and unfortunately her idea of being in control included hurting someone, often times herself.

The image of their bodies pressing together almost caused me a burst of every blood vessel I had in my brain. I could feel the rage taking over my body. It was humming in my veins and bones.

Hannah showed up looking around franticly.

“Where is she? I told you to stay with her!”

“That’s what I’m doing,” I pointed ahead. Hannah’s jaw fell open.

“I didn’t think she would really do it,” she whispered, and I laughed.

“If you think she’s doing this tonight, you’re crazy. One wrong move from either of them and I’m stopping this shitshow.”

Clem threw her hands around Dylan’s neck.

Don’t kill her. She’s drunk and you’re in love with her sorry ass.

I wanted to go there and yank her from his arms, but I refrained from it. I approached them slowly; Hannah was at my heels. I didn’t want to pretend I wasn’t going to physically remove him from her if I had to. So I slammed my hand on his shoulder, looked Clem in the eye, and explained in a very calm manner how things were going down.

“Hannah and I are taking you home. Now. You’re going to take a shower and go to bed, and I hope tomorrow you’ll wake up with the worst hangover ever,” I looked at Dylan next. “Fuck off. You have five seconds before I punch you in the fucking face.”

He laughed.

“Dude, get the hint. She doesn’t want you.”

I took his shirt in my fist and dragged him closer to me.

“Fuck off. Last warning. She’s drunk. It beats me why, but it doesn’t matter,” I stared at him waiting for a reaction. He looked at Clem and probably decided by the way she was wobbling, that it wouldn’t be a good look for him to fuck so intoxicated girl. He stepped back and left.

Hannah and I dragged Clem back home. I went straight to my room. I couldn’t hear anything from Clem’s room, but about half an hour later I heard Hannah leave.

I was in the darkness. In total silence. That was the first time Clem and I were alone at night. It would probably be the last too.
