“Zara was there.”
“No way?”
“Way.” I groaned. “Came waltzing in like she owned the place and proceeded to play her music really loud.”
“She’s such a bitch.”
“Tell me about it. She’s ten times worse now that she has her claws into Aaron.”
“What’s going on there?”
“What, with Aaron and Zara?” I asked, and she rolled her eyes.
“No, not with her and Aaron. With you and Aaron.”
“Oh.”
“Maybe you’ll tell me what the weirdness was I sensed between the two of you last night at the hospital?” Her brow quirked up.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Poppy June Ford, you’re lying to me.”
“I am—fine. There was a small incident.”
“Ooh.” Her eyes lit up. “How small are we talking?”
“This is your brother we’re talking about. Your twin brother. Isn’t it weird?”
“Are you going to tell me a sex story?”
“What? No!”
“Then it’s not weird. Continue…”
I hesitated. She was Aaron’s sister and it felt a little strange. But it was Sofia, the one person besides Aaron I’d always been able to talk to about anything. The person I turned to more and more as I’d gotten older and realized the gravity of my feelings for him.
“So me and Eli went to the movies and I needed to pee and… Aaron was there.”
“He was?” She frowned, and I nodded slowly.
“He followed us, Sofe.”
“No way. Aaron? He wouldn’t— oh shit, he would. He totally would. What happened?”
“He followed me into the bathroom and we had it out.”
“And…”
“And what? We had a huge fight and both said some things.”
“And…”
“And we may have kissed.”
“Oh my God, I knew it. I freaking knew it.” She practically bounced off the bed. But I didn’t share her enthusiasm. “How was it? I mean, I didn’t want all the gory details because… gross, but did you get butterflies? Was it all soft and romantic, or angry and passionate? Was it—”
“Okay, who are you right now?” I gawked at her.
