“Is that it?”

My question caused a hint of confusion to fall over him, making his forehead crease and his eyes crinkle.

“Not that I encourage it, but I’m used to men not sticking around for the long haul. I prefer that they don’t in most cases. At least this time, I’ll know before it happens. Besides, how do you know that a Mr. Right Now isn’t what I’m looking for?”

He didn’t reply. Even if I was content with a temporary hook-up, I wanted more from him. The delicate stroke of his fingertips traced along my shoulder and caused my skin to prickle and my breath the catch.

We stood suspended in the moment of our connection, one that had purpose and a pulse and a drive to dig deeper. Before I registered what was happening, he turned me, putting my back to my front door. His movements were so swift that my gasp of surprise didn’t hit me until after my back kissed the hard wood.

“There are things I can’t give you, Patrena,” he said, breathing out words that confirmed he didn’t believe my lie.

He leaned in so close his warm breath breezed along my face and lingered on my skin. The depth of our connection drew me in so completely my raging thoughts had dwindled down to only one—Tywin. My eyes were on his lips when he reached and sat the water on the small table near my door.

“What can’t you give me?” I questioned, struggling to recall how to breathe because my mind was a mess and the rest of me was on fire.

He took one of my hands and lifted it up and over my head before pinning it to the door.

Shit!

Before another idea blossomed, he made my other hand join the one he had lifted and locked both in one of his big hands. The index finger of his free hand slid along my neck and blazed a hot trail down until he stopped it about an inch from touching my aching nipple.

Touch it. Pinch it. Squeeze it. Please! I was too overwhelmed to move, but I was sure he could read the tension of my heavy desire that caused a light tremble to invade my body. He tightened his grip on my wrist enough to light my fire and spark my flammable arousal.

“Patrena, I don’t do nice-guy sex or gentlemanly foreplay. I like putting a woman in the most vulnerable positions possible. I enjoy taking her to the edge of her tolerance.” He took a step closer, pressing his powerful body into mine. “I like making you beg for what you never knew you wanted and didn’t think you’d like.”

This man was a gentleman out there in the streets, but a straight-up freak behind closed doors.

Lord, give me some mercy please. Forget like, I think I’m in love.

The lethal weapon in his pants moved against my stomach like it had sensed my desires. I exhaled a loud breath to keep from having an orgasm from that hint of contact. The pulse of my arousal was alive like two hearts were beating out of control inside me.

My tongue slipped across my quivering lips. “Please. Make me beg,” I whispered, breathlessly responding to his bold statement. My chest heaved hard to keep up with my breathing that bounced off his chest and neck and escaped into my living room.

If he wanted to get a little kinky, I didn’t mind it as long as he didn’t take things too damn far and have me tied up for days in a dungeon. I had never been cuffed and hadn’t had the opportunity to play with the kind of adult toys I fantasized about. However, the notion of expanding my sexual résumé had always piqued my interest. It was tough enough getting men to participate when I wanted something as simple as role playing, so if Tywin wanted to do some grown-folks fucking, I damn sure wasn’t going to shy away.

After I suggested he make me beg, his pupils expanded before my eyes, the brown around one orb and green around the other was being eaten away by expanding blackness. A dark glimpse of his nature peaked and jarred me from the hyped-up state he had lured me into. I was scared and turned on at the same time and weirdly unable to decide what emotion felt better.

Tywin lifted the finger he had set near my tightly puckered nipple and loosened the grip he’d had on my wrist. When he eased back, taking that hypnotizing masculine power with him, I shook my head.

“W-what… what…”

What is he doing? I couldn’t speak to save myself from the disappointment so quickly filling my intoxicated senses. The dark energy in his eyes began to weaken, losing the electric power that had sparked to life in them. He hadn’t dropped my pinned hands, but his grip on my wrist had loosened.

“You deserve better, Patrena. I can’t do that to you. It won’t sit right with me.”

He dropped his head, shaking it slowly and biting deep into his bottom lip like he was attempting to shake away his decision.

“You know how people are always saying, don’t judge a book by its cover?” he questioned. I nodded. “Well, Patrena, I’m the book you should never open.”

I sensed he was talking about more than being a Vallin, and at this point, I didn’t care that he was also a member of the syndicate. He and his cousins had saved and protected me and Desiree. Besides, I didn’t want to marry him. I just wanted the good hard fuck I had seen promised in his expressions.

“I can’t believe I’m fucking doing this,”he mumbled under his breath. He lifted his head, recapturing my searching gaze. “I respect you, especially after what you did for Desiree and for all you witnessed and went through afterwards.”

Good, but what does that have to do with us fucking?

I knew he saw the question I hadn’t voiced out loud in my high-arching brow and cocked gaze.

He caressed my cheek tenderly, allowing the backs of his fingertips to slide along my warm flesh. “I don’t do love or romance. I don’t do relationships and I never return for seconds,” he explained softly, putting his cards out there.
